The informative Twitter feed @bostonsportsinf put together a chart Thursday of how Sale’s first 50 starts stack up to other prominent Red Sox pitchers over the last 40 years. He had nine fewer wins than Pedro over that stretch, and Pedro had the lower ERA in a hitter-happy time when pretty much no one other than him had a low ERA. But Sale’s WHIP, K/9, and K/BB rates were better. He’s not Pedro. But he’s done a lot of Pedro-like things, and only legends and aspiring legends can say that.

You have not posted a single link to an article where the author states that Chris Sale's 2017 season is similar to Pedro Martinez's 1999.

This is where ERA+ is a valuable stat, because it measures pitchers against the pitchers of their era.


Martinez had an incredible 243 ERA+ in '99 and a mind boggling 291 number in '00.

As good as Sale has been, his ERA+ in his first 2 years in Boston pale in comparison. 159 last year, and he's carrying a 217 right now,but he's got 2 months to go that haven't been particularly kind to him in his career.

I don't think fatigue is the issue with Severino, it's his mechanics. David Cone points it out every start, and it's plain as day, but apparently no one on the crack Yankee staff has noticed.

Let's all hope that he's using those same mechanics tonight as well.....

Chris Sale is one of the best pitchers in baseball and the OP is a fucking moron. None of this is news.

I think it's just to limit his pitch count to keep him healthier for post season.
