To channel the legendary Brent Musburger... YOU'RE LOOKING LIVE! At the meadowlands in East Rutherford New Jersey and Home of the AFC New York Jets!
Where there's there's more anticipatory excitement for a preseason game than I can recall in a long, long time., and the homestanding and plaqyoff focused Jets play host to a completely retooled and rebuilding Washington Commanders team led by the Heisman winning, multi-talented QB Jayden Daniels.
For the home team we begin with notable additions and losses and nothing has created a greater stir for their long suffering fans than the return of Aaron Rogers, dreams of better QB play and the possibility of seeing this team do something that they haven't since 1969... playing in a Super bowl.
For the new look Commanders, there's a top to bottom renovation project taking place, with a new owner, GM, reschuffled front office and at least 35 new faces on their anticipated 53 man roster, a 66% turnover ratio.
The upcoming preseason game between the Washington Commanders and the New York Jets is set to be an exciting matchup! Here are some key points to look out for:
- Quarterback Performances: The Commanders will start withJayden Daniels while Aaron Rodger won't play this game will be a great opportunity to see how Washington's QB fares against NFL level competition and his readiness for the regular season.
- Rookie Showcases: Preseason games are a chance for rookies to prove themselves. Keep an eye on the new additions to both teams as they try to make an impact and secure their spots on the roster.
- Defensive Battles: Both teams have strong defensive units. The Commanders’ Jamin Davis, Jer'Zhan Newton and Dorance Armstrong will be key players to watch along with second year pro, Emmanuel Forbes, new draftee, Mike Sainristill and the revamped secondary all under watchful eyes.
- Running Game: The Commanders’ Brian Robinson Jr. and AustinEKeler are expected to lead the rushing attacks. Their performances will be crucial in setting the tone for new offensive coordinator, Kliff Kingsbury.
- Wide receivers: Outside of the veteran Terry McLaurin, questions abound, as 3rd year pro Jahan Dotson looks to improve on a disappointing 2023 season, while newcomers Luke McCaffrey and camp surprise Olamide Zaccheaus will push to prove that they can be relied on to fill key roles in this offense.
- Tight Ends: Zach Ertz appears to have a stranglehold on the starting position, but 2nd round pick Ben Sinnott, veterans John Bates and Cole Turner won't be satisfied with backup roles, especially if Ertz is unable to recapture semblances of his former self.
Special Teams: Preseason games often highlight special teams play. Watch for standout performances from kickers and return specialists as they try to make their mark.
