:L it's not traditional to always hire guys with Nebraska ties.

That said, I'm not as upset about Erstad now.

Bob Devaney didn't have Nebraska ties.
Bo Pelini didn't have Nebraska ties.
Dave Van Horn didn't have Nebraska ties.

Listening to the press conference, Erstad sounded just as surprised as me that he got the job without even a clue at how to begin.

I'm happy for him being a great player, with great work ethic, and all around great guy. Heck he even told us NU was gonna win the CWS. woot

I wish him luck as he attempts to 'learn' the ABC's of coaching Major D-1 baseball from scratch.

In the meantime I'll just remember Nebraska is content being a football school.

My money was on Erstad from day one. Maybe even before Anderson was even fired. I think he'll be a great hire. Getting B. Starling to come to NU wouldn't hurt his chances.

I'll wait to see how he does before I say anything bad about the decision. I think it will be interesting to see how he does, can it be any worse than what they just had?

Did Mike Anderson get fired or something? What's all this fuss about?

thanks! rep for the link (if JJM feels that is rep worthy).

Your rep is your rep, and you may do with it what you wish.........doesn't bother me any way you do it............all I know is that I personally am not going to waste my time anymore participating in the "you rep me, I rep you back" program...........it's just never ending.

Like I said, I love ye all.........please, no hostility towards me, friends :peace:

When does hiring a big name coach ever really pay off? Yea, you have a winning season, but you never win championships...........they just don't bring any passion to a program in any sport because all they really care about is gettin that paycheck.

Yeah it never pays off,

Nick Saban, Michigan St to LSU and Alabama, big name head coach
Urban Meyer, Utah to Florida, big name head coach
Phil Jackson, Bulls to Lakers, big name head coach
Auggie Garrido, Cal St Fullerton to Texas, big name head coach
Bob Stoops, Florida to Oklahoma, big name assistant
John Calipari, Memphis and Kentucky, big name head coach
Pete Carroll, USC, big name head coach

Should I keep going?

Not saying Nebraska should have gone after a big name coach, mainly because a big name coach wouldn't have came here, but we needed someone with experience.

Well I mean the weird thing is, everyone is complaining because they wanted Will Bolt............but now we're gonna have Bolt and Erstad..........I just don't see what the problem is with that.

I don't think Erstad will be the manager/head coach (is it called head coach in college?) long. I think Bolt is being brought in to groom him into the Nebraska way.

My hopes were on a guy like Dan Heefner who is a Creighton/Northern Iowa guy and has Dallas Baptist playing well enough to have beaten Oklahoma in their regional yesterday.

Dallas Baptist University Athletics - 2010-2011 Baseball Coaching Staff

Anderson was making over $300K. NU could have probably gotten this up and comer for $200K. :L

What about the Nebraska way doesn't Will Bolt already know about? :confused2:

My point that I was trying to make was really just that it's so much easier to want to play and win for a coach who is very passionate.........

As a former athlete myself, I still remember in high school when our basketball team was supposed to have all this potential and everything.........we won tournaments as Freshman and Sophomores, and posted a 13-1 record in the regular season as Sophomores...........and then when I was a Junior we hired a guy who had taken a girl's team to state a bunch of times at some other school nearby. We were all hyped up and everything in the newspaper, preseason ranked top 5, and then we finished 2-17 my Junior year and 6-15 my Senior year.

I think back to that all the time, and the first thing I think about was the fact that the new coach came in and had no passion.......he didn't care about our program, and it was just the cancer of our team. Nobody wanted to play for him.........but I remember my coach from when I was a Freshman and Sophomore, and he wasn't a gem.......he was just fun to play for.

So he's gong to be goomed by who, former player who has one year as a volunteer position coach and absolutely ZERO experience has a head coach?

Erstad is not a coach. He's in training to be a coach. It's a fuckin' high risk gamble.

Osborne is more dedicated to his big donor buddy than ensuring the program is led by a proven coach. There were multiple proven coaches (doing more with less) out of the latest field of 64 who would have jumped at the chance to put all their energy into the facilities of a major D-1 school.
