I don't know if JD will make a deal. Teams will be asking for to much in return.

Even if we try to make a deal, my understanding is any player we go after will have to clear waivers. That would mean a fellow contender could "check" our move if they are lower in the standings. The August trades worked for Boston and LAD last year because no other team wanted to touch the salaries of the players coming from Boston.

Or Michael morse. Problem is this absolutely puts Murphy in the lineup every day unless we get someone like morse.

What about rios? I don't know if anyone will want to touch his salary. I can see other teams playing hardball with us

Its obvious the ChiSox had too high of a price tag on Rios, prospect wise and also contract wise

Apparently, Cruz is guilty. Therefore, he should take his penalty now. It might not be good for the Rangers, but cheaters should serve their time.

I also believe in second chances and would be happy to welcome him back after he serves his suspension. If that is not in the cards, so be it.

Rios may be put on waivers by Chicago. I may be incorrect, but I can see the Angels checking our every move just because their front office hates our front office.

Maybe Terps can opine on the waiver process a bit. But my understanding is if a player is put on waivers everyone within the AL with a worse record than the Rangers can deal on the player as long as they accept the salary. It worked for LAD last year because no other team out there in the NL wanted to absorb the Boston salaries.

I am sure our FO is trying to work something, but it won't be immediate and won't be a player that can replace a bat like Cruz.

So what happens if we make the postseason? Do we put him back in the starting lineup? Is he even eligible? He can't work with the team, so does he just swing in a cage for 2 months?

I think he took the deal as MLB was dangling harsher penalties. Same as Peralta.

IMO the Rangers will have some options before August 31.

If San Diego fades Carlos Quinton would be the guy to take a strong run at. Alex Rios in a jam as well.

Morse would probably be a solid addition, Willingham... meh

Morse is at least worth kicking the tires on

The part about MLB dangling harsher penalties does bother me. There should be a set suspension, whether you appeal or not.

Willingham could be a good add. He had a really good year last year and the year before

There's not a whole lot of difference between the 2 this year (not healthy, probably leading to poor seasons), I just prefer Morse, never been a Willingham fan

Morse has more power and Willingham walks more

Teams that place a claim can still work out a trade

Right, but if they can't they move to the next team right? Basically, if Texas wants to get morse through waivers they better not wait till the midnight hour since another team might filibuster so to speak with no intention of acquiring him.

Well, with the hammer coming down, I sure hope he is able to come back and help us in the playoffs (assuming we make it). Also, despite everything, I still hope they resign the guy and this situation still should drive the price down.

You are absolutely correct. This is no time whittle pencils. Do what we need to do now or the post season may be only a dream.

Would like to have him as a 4th OF/DH next year.

Then I say go see what the mariners would seriously consider for Morse.
