Need any more proof that the Saints purposely tried to hurt Alex?

This 'bounty' program happens all around the league...not surprising

The bigger question w/ this 'bounty' issue is.....WHO SNITCHED?!?!

I'm just speaking from a guy that was in the lockerroom....these things happened, not saying it was right, but it happened

Maybe the Saints D did a discount double check on their bounty on Marshawn Lynch

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the NFL has determined that MLB Jonathan Vilma was one of the primary culprits in the Saints' "pay for performance" bounty program that will result in NFL discipline.
"In the week of the NFC Championship Game," Schefter said on NFL Live Friday, "Saints linebacker Jonathan Vilma put $10,000 in cash on a table and said 'this goes to the guy that knocks out Brett Favre.'" Those weren't Vilma's exact words, but they were similar, according to Schefter, and he's sure to be atop the league's target list for impending discipline. It's worth nothing that Vilma is due $5.4 million in 2012 and has been discussed as a possible salary cap casualty. We wouldn't expect him back with the Saints.

Exactly what I was thinking.

bud did you watch the fucking game,,,,or are you just here trying to bust my chops,,,,,,

A little of both. There's little doubt that the Saints were trying to hurt QBs during their super bowl run. And that the officials probably didn't call it as tightly as they should have.

There's also little doubt that certain players on the Steelers try to hurt people when they play. <Cough> James Harrison. <Cough> And there's no doubt in my mind that the Steelers' two most recent super bowl wins were among the most poorly officiated games - especially big games - that I have ever seen, to the point that one of the officials actually came out publicly and apologized.

Agree here, all true.

Reading this NFL report a bit more carefully, I think there's a chance Mickey Loomis loses his job over this.

The evidence conclusively established that Mr. Benson was not aware of the bounty program. When informed earlier this year of the new information, Mr. Benson advised league staff that he had directed his general manager, Mickey Loomis, to ensure that any bounty program be discontinued immediately. The evidence showed that Mr. Loomis did not carry out Mr. Benson’s directions.

That's pretty damning. It makes it sound as if he blatantly ignored an order from his owner, and at least partially as a result, the Saints might get hit hard. If they lose Brees because of this, man, what a blow that would be....

Rams released a blurb from Greg Williams. Greg apologized for a terrible mistake and took full responsibility.

you little man can suck my ass

The Steelers team of the 70's deserved there 4 super bowls wins.. they had a Good offense and one of the best defense ever i've ever seen in nfl history..The last two super bowls the steelers played in they had a lot of shitty calls that went there way but they didn't cheat to win just a little help from the refs. But i am thankful they ruined the season for cards and seahawks!!

The league should take serious action, especially at a time when they are trying to promote player safety (i.e. hits to the head). The fact that the GM knew about this makes it worse, the Saints should give up their Super Bowl victory. Ok, so maybe not that extreme but definitely forfeiture of picks, suspensions and fines.

Meh, so what.. a whole lot of guys try to injure players, and this is a big deal because they paid for injuries?

It's low and classless, but its not illegal in the same sense that spygate was by giving the Saints an unfair advantage from taping the other team's practice or plays.. it just gave them the advantage because they took out the other team's QB

You can't tell me the Giants weren't trying to injure Montana way back in 1990, with the same intentions as the Saints defense.

For some reason I'm not really seeing the big deal about this.

Players wanna injure opposing players? Get outta here.

A lengthy investigation by the NFL’s security department has disclosed that between 22 and 27 defensive players on the New Orleans Saints, as well as at least one assistant coach, maintained a “bounty” program funded primarily by players in violation of NFL rules during the 2009, 2010 and 2011 seasons
The bounty program was administered by defensive coordinator Gregg Williams with the knowledge of other defensive coaches. Funds were contributed on occasion by Williams
Although head coach Sean Payton was not a direct participant in the funding or administration of the program, he was aware of the allegations, did not make any detailed inquiry or otherwise seek to learn the facts, and failed to stop the bounty program. He never instructed his assistant coaches or players that a bounty program was improper and could not continue.

Not only is it illegal to Pay somebody clobber somebody on the street.
It's also against the NFL rules.

Wait, you mean defensive players aren't already being paid to go out and hit opposing players as hard as they can?

Look - I understand it's against the rules and the morality issue of "celebrating" injuring someone. But it's not like they went out and drew penalties on every play trying to break someone's ankle or elbow. I'm not sure Greg Williams' conversations went farther than "Hey, I don't care how you take someone out of the game, just don't get a penalty". You don't think this happens in every locker room? On every level? Even in highschool we celebrated the guys who injured the opposing team's star players.

It's a story. But not as big of a story as the media is trying to make it.

There's definitely a league hypocrisy aspect of this. But with the emphasis on safety lately, the league has to take action, and apparently the Saints have pissed a lot of people off over the past few years.
