this is a very nice get for ND. This is also a nice future pick up for possible HC postion if Kelly bolts. I like this pick up for OC. This is also weird timing for Denbrock who just turned down HC position. was expected to be the new OC. Overall great pick up for ND.

I don't know.....a lot of moving parts and changes within the coaching staff. I think this young team needs some stability to get comfortable in the system. I just don't want Kelly to use this as a we are building for the future speech again. Great talent and depth on both sides of the ball at ND now. I just hope we can keep it going and I think that begins with comfortability with the coaching staff which makes college feel like home, especially at ND where the kids come from all over the country.

I think we will be fine. Boise St was ranked 14th in offense. Plus he has been on the recruiting trail so he knows how to recruit. I think this will be a good pick up for ND.

I'm fine with this move. I'm just glad they got it filled prior to spring practice. I'm not sure what offense BSU ran, but I'm sure Kellt will let him know what he's looking or.

1st time Kelly went outside his coaching tree to hire a coordinator. I also think this is great insurance if Kelly bolts. He is only 32 years old. i like this move alot.

Im reading more into this Hire and most are sayng this is a GREAT hire. some predict he will be a great HC one day. Very smart play HC. On his resume already(32 years old), at Stanford he was RB. QB coach, WR coach and recruiting Coordinator for Stanford. That's a lot on his plate. Then he was OC for Boise st. In 1 year helped them rank 14th in yards and 9th in scoring. They finished 12-2 with a Fiesta Bowl win over Arizona.

I am fired up about this hire. Big time pick up for ND. Other side notes: He got great reviews from Head coaching interviews from OSU, Vandy, and Oregon St. The guy is only 32.

I also read where this new OC likes to run the ball. That is going to be nice to see next yr. We have the talent back there, lets use it now.

Admittedly I had never heard of the guy until last week. But I haven't read one negative thing about this hire and TONS of positive...so I'll take it. Apparently he is the real deal...coaching, recruiting, enthusiastic, passionate...players really respond to him. And he is young.

The simple fact he turned down Urban and came to ND makes him OK in my book!!!

Some times bad things (like Alford bolting for OSU) turn into positives.

Man Im liking this staff a lot right now. I have to give Kelly some credit. He has done a great rebuilding this staff. Still worried about recruiting but they say Sanford is a really good recruiter.

I have to say that he can't do any worse in California than LaFleur did. With the exception of St. Brown (also I'm not sure LaFleur was super involved in his recruitment) and Sanders I feel like he basically missed out on most of the bigger California kids that Notre Dame went after.

I think that ND struggles in CA in general. But I also think you're right, LaFleur didn't have much to do with St. Brown. My understanding is that was mostly Denbrock. But Sanford has a lot of CA ties, between his stint in Stanford, and Boise St. does a lot of west coast recruiting, including CA.

Notre Dame doesn't always pull the top players out of California but they can usually land a few of the elite players and I guess they did this year in St Brown and Sanders but I feel like they whiffed a lot this year. Of course USC has a full compliment of scholarships now and have room in their program to reach 85 scholarship athletes.

They had 6 scholarship athletes and several more walk-ons out of California.
