Why would they keep the Giants/Skins as the SNF game when they could've found a better game to replace it? Who will be watching that a SNF game between the 4-7 G-Men and the 3-8 Skins?

Cincy/SD and SF/STL were much better options IMO

Even with their records, it's not clear that Cincy/SD and SF/STL will draw more viewers. Giants/Skins are a combined much larger media market than those other two matchups.

Plus, it's more complicated than that.

First, there's a limit to the number of games that can be flexed, and the network may want to save their flex option for another game.

Second, flexing is decided in consultation between all the networks (not just NBC) and the NFL. The networks sometimes make deals with each other wherein one agrees not to flex some game in return for some compensation from another network.

What about AZ/Philly? Nobody gives a shit about the Giants and Skins right now. They are completely irrelevant to post season football which is what the flex schedule is all about.

Sometimes two bad teams matched together ends up being a good game, however in this instance, WAS is really, really bad, so I am not expecting much from them.

The main reason to keep these teams on SNF is because they are two of the biggest markets with lots of real fans as well as bandwagoners rooting for both sides. I will be watching on the west coast, just because I love football.

No one has cared about AZ, ever. I'll watch the Skins/Giants game. Even with no playoff implications, Eli and RG3 will bring in higher numbers than those other games will. SF would bring in good numbers, but against STL...who is playing QB again? Cincy and SD...again no one would care.

Giants and Skins both have bigger following and are in bigger cities. Even with no playoffs on the line, it is still a strong rivalry and will get big numbers.

Who cares about markets? America loves the NFL. They would've gotten pretty good ratings for any of the other 3 mentioned games

lulz, look another SEA fan talking about bandwagons. Tell me, who is on the Skins bandwagon after a decade plus of futility? How long do they have to stick with a bad team before they are just "fans"?

The TV stations trying to sell ad time, that's who.

Real football fans would care about both of those games. St.Louis is playing great football lately and they should be able to hang with San Fran. As for Cincy/SD that should be a great game with a ton of playoffs implications. San Diego just went into KC and beat the Chiefs and are tied for the last WC spot. This game is crucial for Cincy because if they lose they will only be a game ahead of the winner of the Pitt/Baltimore thanksgiving night game

If the NFL honestly cared about the markets why would they use the flex schedule? The whole point of the flex schedule had absolutely nothing to do with markets but the flex schedule is supposed to be used to give the fans an important game that would have an impact on the playoffs race.

I think the flex schedule is so they can put out a sched that shows low-rating teams that were crappy the year before that they will have primetime slots. Then if the team starts to suck they can flex them for a larger audience.

And the "real football fan" line is a good one. Too bad "real football fans" will watch whatever is on TV and ad revenues come from getting ratings from the fair-weather fans who want to see a team they know or are from a town they like/live.

lulz, look another DAL fan talking about bandwagons. Maybe not in TX, but trust me, there are many wearing RGIII shirts all over the place. Of course, I bet lots are regretting the purchase now

After watching last nights game I will not watch another Skins game this year. Any team but the Skins for the rest of this year.

That doesn't make them redskins fans.

RG3 is by far the best of the young crop, so clearly he will get some supporters.

NEW YORK and BALTIMORE/WASHINGTON are gigantic television markets.
The goal is to make money and sell a product.

If the NFL had any say in the matter, it would put the same games on every night.

Essentially the TV people see an 8 team league (NFC East, Steelers, Patriots, Packers, wherever Peyton plays).

That is the only group of teams that the television people want to showcase.

The NFL is not as bad as Major League BasekeesSox, but the same principle holds up.

They cringe in terror of teams like Cincinnati and Kansas City having good records.

The NFC East might not produce the best teams, but the division produces MONEY.

Teams will be informed as soon as they are no longer under consideration or eligible for a move to Sunday night. Rules NOT listed on NFL web site but pertinent to flex schedule selection: CBS and Fox each protect games in five out of six weeks, and cannot protect any games Week 17

The NFL will decide (after consultation with CBS, FOX, NBC) and announce as early as possible the game being played at 8:15 p.m. ET. The announcement will come no later than 12 days prior to the game. The NFL may also announce games moving to 4:05 p.m. ET and 4:15 p.m. ET. - See more at: SNF Flex Scheduling Watch ? MorganWick.com

Week 14 Atl/GB has changed to Car/NO

Protected games: Colts-Bengals (CBS) and Seahawks-49ers (FOX). :suds:
