Id be fine with a 2nd move as a grad. But one max during undergrad. That way some kid that busts out or finds they hate their choice can try again. And then have one "free agent" year as a grad.

If you're going to treat them as free agents to benefit your school's needs, it will be tough to impose restrictions now when a bad situation bites you. These schools are continuously recruiting kids at these valued positions each year, is that fair to the guy that commits to a school? It works both ways.

For every toxic situation you have an Arch Manning who was stunted by Ewers deciding to come back for another year last season, but he stayed. Given the Manning family's reputation, you might have expected him to transfer before last season.

Having someone sign a contract can work multiple ways, having a kid commit and agree to 2.5 million then ask for more is just blackmail. That isnt free agency.

For sure. You hear his dad was trying to orchestrate a holdout for playing in the playoff last year? They shouldn’t have been surprised by this.
Sounds like Tennessee probably “knew about” the kid and his family when they recruited him. If they didn’t know what they were getting into when they probably only got him because they were the highest bidder then they’re pretty naive.

Yep either contracts or restrict these kids to 1 move during their college career and also should not be allowed until after playing 2 seasons with the first school IMO
I don’t like restricting movement of freshmen in college. Outside of sports you have a ton of kids who think they’ll like a school when they’re a high school senior but they’re there a year and it isn’t what they thought.

There does need to be improvements to this situation though.

Because we are both ND fans…they’re kind of sheltered by this. They do NIL but the kid who makes decisions based on who pays them the most isn’t an ND kid. During these moments it’s good to be different. The ND student athlete experience is one of a kind. The education is elite. And there’s only one Marcus Freeman and he has a magical way with people and development.

So from where I sit, they can take their sweet old time with this shit haha.

Yeah I wouldn't either.....If my team needed a QB and thought this one could help then I'd want them to go after him.

How it is now.
The pros have already figured this out. The players all embrace the idea that everybody wants to get paid. They stand by each other in all but the most ridiculous hold out situations. They leave the money over there and then it’s about the football over here. Those are pros and adults though. I wonder if the ages of the people here will make a difference in the way this plays in a locker room.

It's a good question.....this is still relatively new so likely gonna be a few years before teams have a better handle on things. Might also be some changes made, too.

Biggest problem with the transfer portal and NIL is that they opened with virtually no rules or oversight...it's the wild, wild west. I saw Geno Auriemma being interviewed on Dan Patrick and he pointed out how the transfer portal was open during March Madness. You'd never see the NBA or NFL allow free agency during the playoffs.

Imo, the NCAA should have opened with a lot of restrictions. It's much easier to loosen the rules than it is to tighten them. I think they'll make some changes, but they're going to get a lot more pushback when they do.

Good news bad news stuff.

Good outweighs the bad. ND wasn’t going to start the wrong QB. This means Carr is likely the guy. Menchy is a less than ideal back up because he has no experience. That’s the bad news. The best guy to be QB2 is in the portal. This is net good but tough loss. It’s a big ask anymore to expect a kid like this to stick around.

They handed him the job to keep him out of the portal

Everything I read said Angeli looked the best

But I guess not enough to risk losing carr

Not from what I saw. I saw every snap of the spring game and Carr was head and shoulders above the other two QBs. I haven’t seen camp though obviously. You know what else? Neither did anybody you read because they were closed practices except for the spring game.
