Lebron for sure helped. Though he is not why Cavs had an owner willing to spend to attract him back....Did chuckle at that, but OSU won 2 titles I saw before NIL though. Oh, and every team has NIL available to their players.

All the owner had to do was say yes when Lebron wanted to come back. Kinda like Rob saying yes to the Mavs.

For this recent title, OSU used NIL in a different way, steering their outgoing players away from the draft and back to the team. Hadn't really been used like that before. College is different anyway, and OSU has a winning legacy to draw upon even when things don't look great.

They are not going to pass on offers they like. whatever one thinks of this regime they aren't making moves (or not making them) out of emotion. and that's a good thing.

but they also wont make a move just because a player requested they move him.
They have to because he's not just any player and his reason is reality... "[The Browns are worthless and he doesn't want to waste his career there losing all the time]."

The Raiders lack the necessary equipment for a run based offense, will need to do some work this winter.
Yea they are going to continue to suck for 2 years minimum.

They can reload with free agents, but that probably just bumps them up to mediocre at best. So yeah, through good drafts is the real way to get back in the playoff mix and that will take time.

He had to say yes, sure....but Lebron never wants to come back if he did not know the owner would spend whatever was asked to spend.

No doubt NIL was used to keep guys from leaving....something any team could have done. And, sure, I'm suire it helped that had a feeling if they stayed could win a title. And did.

no curse on them.

He also has made conflicting reports by saying he thinks the current roster is enough to win. The Browns will only move him if they think it helps to move him.

will say while I hope he stays it's a bit like I looked at LBJ (not at his level in his sport of course)...wanted him to stay, but never liked the guy. Cannot say I like Garrett either.

This off-season is going to be interesting with Lebron.

He has a $52 million player option that as of right now, I'd say he's a lock to pick up. This move seems to indicate that the Lakers are no longer capitulating to Lebron and are going to do what's best for the Lakers...not necessarily for Lebron.

What will be interesting is if things go well with Luka...would Lebron, as someone else suggested, opt out, then re-sign at a more team friendly deal possibly allowing them some cap space flexibility to sign some guys who can help with a title run before he "rides off into the sunset".

He's not stupid, so he has to know that if he picks up that option, it's going to be difficult for the Lakers to do much. On the other hand...he's earned every penny of that, so I'd find it hard to fault him if he does.

He could but I don't see Lebron taking less than he can get.....unless he had to do it to go play with his kid somewhere else.

Michigan did the same thing the previous year, they paid their players so they wouldn’t go to the draft. It is actually the best strategy going forward bc they have been in your system for likely years.
“When things don’t look great”—like 18 out of 20 years finishing with double digits wins or more. 2 titles - add one to that and overall 18-7 vs their rival. Cheating scandal could vacate some of those wins to make it more lopsided.

Other than maybe Alabama, that is one of the most impressive 20-25 years so far. I would hate to see what “good” or “great” looks like. Only one in that category is Bama

I assume he declines his option and gives the team a potential to sign a free agent like he did last summer, then signs for the balance of the space under the 2nd apron again. Hopefully the Lakers are more successful in finding that FA than they were last year.

The question is the cost. Not only will it cost his new team a large salary hit, it will cost multiple picks that would provide cost controlled young talent that could've been used to offset that. IF the Browns choose to deal him, of course...

Better get at least 2 1st’s for him
That’s a pipe dream now that the league knows he wants out. This was me last year with Hassan Reddick. I was saying price had to be right or they will just play him in the last year of the contract. Went for a 3rd haha. Myles Garrett is sooooo much better though. I think in the end it’s a first and then a second or 2 third round picks. It all depends on how intent Garrett is about leaving. This is when he should be renegotiating (2 years left; never want to play on last year of the deal) and it’s clear he doesn’t want to renegotiate with the Browns.

I saw that too.

He should be willing to take less after all the cash he has made.
