Because Kirk made a comment about first take when it was only SAS who made the comment. Also not good to publicly call out your colleagues as herby did
I mean, sorry for him to say but guessing many associate 1st take with SAS but if he calls out SAS then he likely cries about him calling the guy out by name.

Can somewhat agree about the latter part but I'd be shocked if it's not something he or especially SAS has never done.

Good question
Glad we don't have to find out...for now.

But my guess is he's still employed. Right or wrong feel like they are afraid of it completely backfiring. One bad season could lead to a long stretch of mostly middling play.

Ask UF, FSU, USC, etc.

They are throwing around money more than them

That’s the difference now

OK, but they have been middling before throwing around money was a thing. Not sure that has anything to do with it.

But either way if it's a fear I wouldn't blame them as not like he's been close to bad or even middling.

Yeah I’d say if you fire him you better have the guy already done as well

Not sure he should have

Most dominant pitcher ever on any given night.

But was he ever the best pitcher in the his league?
He did lead the league in WHIP a couple times at age 43 and 44. And of course he often led the league in strikeouts. But he walked a ton of guys too and he had plenty of losses to go with his wins (.526 winning %)

In 1981 he led the NL with a 1.69 ERA but only made 21 starts (4th in Cy voting). Closest he got was 2nd in 1973.

He also never won a Cy Young

When I was a teenager, my friends and I would go to Angels games when he was pitching. We were all Dodgers fans, but we all liked Nolan and Angel Stadium was much closer. We'd only go if Ryan was pitching.

Seemed like it was always either a strikeout or walk. lol

It basically was with him. Usually led the league in strikeouts, walks, and lowest hits per 9 innings

19-16 with the Angels when he had a 2.26 ERA? Nuts.

That team couldn't score.
