Devin White to the Eagles for 1 year and up to 7.5 million if he hits incentives.

Saquon, CJGJ, Bryce Huff, Devin White. Eagles have been very active in FA. The NFL salary cap is a mirage.

Eventually you pay the piper. You guys punted way down the line lol. That Hurts deal is cra cra haha. But smart. I'd have to look at it again I just remember it being insane lol.

As dt has pointed out though if your owner is willing to pony up money up front that helps a ton.

His cap hit last year was like 6 million and this year it’s like 17 million. By the time it blows up, he’ll be ready for a restructure.

Yep. All those restructures cost you out of pocket money while avoiding cap.

This article does a good job running it down on Hurts specifically

That shit is super complicated and I'm really good with numbers lol
Few manipulate the cap better than Howie Roseman. A Browns guy will appreciate this. We both have context with Joe Banner who was the original “capologist” that cracked that code. Howie’s first job in the organization was working under Banner.

No matter what they have to eat that 110 somewhere in cap. As the article states if everything is gravy they bake the rest of the deal into an extension with the idea the cap hit won't mean as much then..

I still think they end up eating a massive dead cap hit somewhere (unless Hurts is like Rodgers or Brady well into his career) but that's so far down the road if they win a super bowl or two no one will care.

Interestingly enough....despite having 120 million more in guarantees. Deshaun and Jalen will have almost the same amount of dead cap remaining coming into the 26 season lol.

This works because the cap grows and grows and grows. So while 110 million now represents a certain percentage of cap, down the line it will represent a much smaller percentage of the cap.

The guaranteed money is all that matters. The difference is that the Eagles have a built in hedge while the Browns really don’t.

It's a lot harder when there is 120 million more to figure out lol. Next year is where they will really have to get creative. You can see most of their free agents this year are one year deals.

If Deshaun balls out this becomes an easier equation. Right now taking the pain this year and next is the wise move. The Eagles are banking on Jalen being that dude. And if he isn't they will have an ugly year and start over. Which if your qb isn't the guy...is necessary anyway.

The unexpected 30m cap spike really changed the game this year

I don’t think Tenn gets Ridley without it

And that won’t happen every year but it’s a fair projection to say that will happen once in every 4-5 year window of your long term cap management.

If they could survive the implosion of Wentz with one year of cap hell (still finished 9-8 and in the Wildcard) I have confidence that they can swallow a one year poisoned pill and get right back on the horse.

Win a Super Bowl in 2017. Go to cap hell a few years later. Back in the Super Bowl in 2022.

Much like it would’ve been huge for most of the over the tax teams if they let the cap go up naturally in the nba

You’d have like 2 tax payers this year
