cant believe someone wants to devote 40% of their payroll to Russell Westrbrook. WTF

at least in real basketball you can go over the cap. Truly commiting 40% of your resources to RW seems insane. I was sure him and Wall would go undrafted.

I actually thought about possibly adding him next to LaVine and Sabonis before the Warren pick but I didn't think it was a good fit. Definitely a risk but if you have a young team and low cap there aren't many options at this point. Wall will go undrafted I assume bc he just can't offer what RW can, he easily has the worst contract in the NBA and it could be the worst of MLB/NBA/NFL honestly.

Clearly because I can’t win with Porter Jr and Randle as my best 2 players.

But, going cheap early allows me get Russ at this stage.

So it is a move I had to make.

And FYI, even with Russ I have spent less than both of your teams.

you have spent less- but you have no one on your team that is as good as Giannis, Lillard, Middleton or McCollum.

I didn’t have the luxury of picking early or I would have.

And if Middleton or McCollum was my best player you would be saying the exact same thing.

And Russ is definitely as good as those 2, but better suited to be a number 1.

Maybe Randle also.

It can also be argued that RW is better than Middleton and McCollum, but not the first 2.

Again though, criticizing somebody picking 24 when you pick 3 and 8 is a ridiculous thing to do.

Of course I want a better headliner than Russ.

Give me your lucky ass draft spots and I would have it.

And Middleton? If Durant had his foot half an inch further back on that shot, his narrative would be exactly the same as it was as an overpaid mediocre number 2.

Middleton is Bucks’ closer, proves it down stretch to even Finals vs. Suns

By Kurt HelinJul 15, 2021, 12:41 AM EDT

Giannis Antetokounmpo is the two-time MVP, the best player on the team, maybe the only guy in the league who could get up and block a Deandre Ayton alley-oop.
But Khris Middleton is the Bucks closer.
He had to be to keep Milwaukee’s dream of a title alive in Game 4. The Suns did a good job taking the Bucks out of their preferred transition offense, Jrue Holiday went back in his shooting slump, and the Bucks shot 7-of-29 from 3. Throw in a red hot Devin Booker — 42 points and a force from the midrange again — and this game was there for the Suns to steal.
Then there was Middleton.
He finished with 40, scoring 10 straight points in the final 2:07 of the game, often by running a pick-and-roll with Antetokounmpo the Suns couldn’t stop. The Bucks don’t always win pretty — 40.2% shooting overall, 24.1% on 3-pointers — but they find a way. Champions need to be gritty, and Wednesday night Milwaukee was just that.

oh yah--- tons of guys are the go to 4th qtr. guy for an NBA champion- average 24, 6.3, 5.3 in the Finals, and are also one of the best wing defenders in the NBA. LOL.....cmon man.

Middleton has shot 41.5% from 3 the last 2 years. Is one of the FEW players in the entire NBA to go for at least 20, 5 and 5 on a nightly basis, and is one of the premier perimeter defenders in the league.

seems to add up pretty well

can shoot the 3 at an elite level? check
can defend at an elite level? check
can fill up a stat sheet? check
can handle the pressure of closing for his team? check on the biggest stage no less

I am seriously trying to think of how many 20-5-5 guys are ALSO elite defenders, and ALSO elite 3 pt shooters.

If you say "elite" 3 pt is 38% or better- then the only other guys in the league- who are also considered a great defender are Kevin Durant, Kawhi Leonard and Paul George---- not bad company.

as much as Westrbrook can still fill up the stat sheet- and is still very good- he:

1. led the league in turnovers per game at 4.8
2. shot 31.5% from 3
3. shot 65% from the FT line

Middleton was a tick away from 50/40/90 at 47.6, 41.4, 89.8
