I have to back track on my position a bit. I do think the Lakers would ultimately win but it would be closer than I originally thought. I was looking at it as a best case scenario for the Lakers and the currently unimpressive performance by the Heat. The Lakers team was a great one but they did have some dud games as well. I think with both teams doing what they do at their best its pretty close.

Dud games. They swept all the way to the Finals. The Heat would be exposed and humiliated by a great basketball team.

The teams the Lakers faced to get to the Finals in 1987 were a combined 108-128 in the regular season
1st round Denver 37-45 (5 game series) Defensive rating 110.2ppg 15th in the league (out of 23 teams)
2nd round Golden St. 42-40 Defensive rating 111.2ppg 21st in the league
3rd round Seattle 39-43 Defensive rating 110.3ppg 16th in the league

I think a better debate would be the 86 Celtics, who I think are the best team of the decade, arguably best team ever, vs the 87 Lakers. I would take the Celtics, their team was just ridiculously stacked with Wedman and Walton coming off the bench.

Absolutely incredible that someone would even attempt to discount what they did.

Without looking it up I'm pretty sure they lost that season to someone. So unless they were undefeated it really doesnt matter if they swept the playoffs because they didn't play the Heat. The only advantage they have would be Kareem. Again this is everyone on both teams playing at the top of their game and thats why I give the slight nod to the Lakers.

Bill Walton was an almost total non-factor. He was experience and cheerleading, just like M.L. Oh yeah, and criticizing "Jabbar" in the media non-stop. :bullshit:

My respect for you as a fan of this game couldn't possibly be lower than it is right now.

Heat win hands down... The 87 Lakers didnt know how to flop. Not their fault no one did back then. Heat have a parade to the free throw line and win.

Yeah, the Lakers sucked in '87. You're right.
Dude......WTF? Where did I say that?

All I did was show that they did not sweep their way to the Finals.

Is it really that hard to say "All my bad, I thought they did"

Do you mean '12 Heat?? Bc Spurs are up 1-0 so maybe we should compare Spurs vs Lake.

this

everyone wants to talk about how the 2013 Heat are the greatest team in history, and they haven't won anything yet

How about 1987 Lakers vs. 1996 Bulls? The battle of 2 legit champions. Imagine...A.C. Green vs. Dennis Rodman battling for rebounds. ...Pippen vs. Worthy in his prime which we didn't see because Worthy was almost retired in 1991. Michael Cooper vs. Steve Kerr? ....Magic in his prime vs. Jordan. Now that's the kind of stuff we should be talking about.

Cooper would contain MJ but the Bulls couldn't stop Kareem. Lakers in 5. And Phil would agree.

Some guys at CBS had a thing called the ATMD where you drafted players from every era and put out a game plan... It was pretty fun actually but a bit time consuming... It always brought out great convo on past matchups and players... I got the Lakers by the way...
