St. Croix or Miller or Lindberg all of them would probably be a better center the Richards.... But we didnt buy him out.

Hell even Ryan Bourque would be better and he is terrible.

I really like JT Miller's game, I actually think he's better than Chris Kreider.

From what I'm reading, Simon Despres just might be the one to get sent down as a result of our cap situation and the Pens unwillingness to trade Matt Niskanen. I think our defensive parings will go something like this,

D1: Letang - Scuderi
D2: Martin - Orpik
D3: Niskanen - Engelland

Bortuzzo and Despres will probably get hosed.

I think Bortuzzo will be a regular more than Engo. Engelland shouldn't be anywhere near this roster.

With a star laden roster, you're going to need a goon type plumber knuckle dragger who can police the on ice action. Engelland can do that - without him in the lineup what will deter other teams from taking a run at the stars and even their lamp post linemates? Can Bortuzzo handle this role?

That's why a guy like Matt Carkner is useful - he can police the action and you only need to suit him up against certain teams and he can be plugged in at the number 6 d or on the 4th line. Oh, wait, he's the guy who's going to be going after the Penguin stars when he plays them.

I just think that concept is silly...and I hate it. I also realize it still, stubbornly, has a place in the game. The best players should be on the ice...that's not Engo.

You can't have it both ways - either you have an enforcer/semi enforcer or have your talented guys fend for themselves. And when they fend for themselves and get injured, you can't complain to the goonery or thuggish nature of the other team and the refs' blind eyes (unless your name is trueniners).

The team is (hopefully) greater than the sum of it's parts. Sure, Engelland isn't really that talented or graceful on the ice, but his presence alone can be worth more than stats on the scoresheet. Look at John Scott if you need any further proof - he can open up the ice for the "talented" guys on Buffalo to excel without the fear of being put on a stretcher.

Three rookies have made the Islanders opening night roster.
1.D Matt Donovan: As expected the first player to ever make the NHL from Oklahoma made the team. He'll be with the big club all year in all likelyhood.

2.F Brock Nelson: Nelson had a very good camp. He was helped by the loss of Cal Clutterbuck. We'll have to see if he can stick with the team all season.

3.D Griffen Reinhart: Reinhart will be given the same amount of time Ryan Strome was last year. After the 9 games he'll probably be sent to Edmonton of the WHL. He's considered a lock next year by many. Right now he's paired with Matt Carkner.

As for Ryan Strome the organization wants him to work on his two way game. They aren't worried about his offense.

I guess you were right because Miller made the club and Kreider was sent to the AHL.

Sort of surprised by that. Alghough I think Miller is the better player I figured Kreider would be more likely to make the team.
