These 2 features REALLY take a crap on the people who have been flailing trying to blame Alex Smith.
FOOTBALL OUTSIDERS: Innovative Statistics, Intelligent Analysis | Under Pressure: Splitting Seconds
FOOTBALL OUTSIDERS: Innovative Statistics, Intelligent Analysis | Under Pressure: The Short of It
I think it shows what most of us believe - that Alex is in the middle, that Troy was worse, the o-line is a work in progress, and that Peyton Manning is a good quarterback. Some want to pin everything on Alex and some want to say that Alex would be great if it weren't for the o-line. I think most don't think that being in the middle is good enough and that Alex shares the blame, even if he doesn't hold it until three seconds as often as some.
If Alex can move above the middle in this and other categories and we win because/despite him, I think people will slowly change what is acceptable - though they will be dragging their feet and making it a point that it is despite him. (I'm talking about this year, next year even an above-average Smith will be called out). Who knows though winning does a lot to temper the masses and haters going to hate, homers going to home regardless. It just depends on the numbers and influence of those in each category.
Great links, Vipor!
