Keeping the train of thought on punchline's free agency thread, a modest trade proposal:

Denver gets: Shawn Marion
Dallas gets: Wilson Chandler, Anthony Randolph, and a future 2nd round pick

Don’t get me wrong, I think Corey Brewer is a fine player. However, I just don’t think he’s worth the extra money on a team that isn’t high-income is the first place. Denver will need to use their money to re-sign Iggy. George Karl wants the Nuggets to become more of a defensive team, and Marion fits the bill. So, I have put together a modest trade idea:

In a new city, Marion could enjoy similar career rejuvenation to that of his Mavs teammate Vince Carter did when he came to Dallas two years ago (even though Carter was a little too three-happy this past season). Replacing Chandler’s production could be tough, though his minutes would likely go to youngsters Evan Fournier and Jordan Hamilton. Chandler, like Brewer, is a fine player but given his pedigree, he won’t be part of a championship team in Denver. This trade will allow him to play in the big market he typically prefers. Anthony Randolph would be a throw-in to make the numbers work.

An additional player Denver could look into is Atlanta free agent DeShawn Stevenson. Talk about taking a page out of the 2011 Mavs with those two guys (Marion and Stevenson)...

All in all, I think this would be a good move for both teams as it allows the Mavs to get younger and for Denver to become more defensive-oriented.

Thoughts? Where should Marion end up this summer? Or should the Mavs hang on to him?

A couple of short-sighted posts from a short-sighted poster. Marion's game may not be sexy, but the guy is a champion and will win wherever he ends up.

He just turned 35 and can opt out this offseason. He's set to make a little over 9mil. and some think that Cuban wants him to opt out so they can re-sign him for less money.

Dallas Mavericks To Ask Shawn Marion To Opt-Out Of Contract? - FanSided - Sports News - An Independent Sports Network

I could see Marion doing that because I really think he wants to stay in Dallas. Plus he stated at this years trade deadline that non-contending teams shouldn't think about trading for him because he wouldn't show up. So the best way for him to keep it that way is to take less money and let Cuban try to bring in good FA's with the extra cash.

He's clearly not the defensive player he once was, but in limited minutes he can still be effective.

Wow Doors made a post that didn't suck up to LeBron. I think the world is coming to an end.

What kind of deal do you think he could get from the Mavs if he opted out? Maybe three years and $15 million?

The thing is, if the Mavs fail to land a top-tier free agent, would be worth it for a veteran like Marion to finish his career there?

Marion still has game. He plays better defense than any Laker, that's for sure

I've never seen him play any in my life time, he is old and set to earn 9 million, he had better not opt out of the 9 million because I guarantee you that he won't get more then 5 if he is lucky to get that

while you are talking out of the side of your neck, There's a certain laker who has made 12 all nba defensive teams with 9 of them being 1st team. Another failed attempt by a Laker hater...

What!? He wants to stay in Dallas, but doesn't want to play for a non-contending team? Talk about oxymoron...

I am sorry, but I will gladly take my chances in watching Shawn Marion play for any Lakers opponent in the playoffs next season over being stuck with him. Dallas or whoever has him has most likely prayed and offered sacrifices to their gods that he would opt out of that contract because with the climate of the new CBA he would be lucky to get offered 1 million a year let alone the 9 he is scheduled to get. He is flat stupid if he opts out of that guaranteed contract. He is an aging player with no future that virtually would be guaranteed to get less money regardless of what you think his game is

Shawn Marion doesn't smoke crack, dummy. And he doesn't cheat on his wife in Colorado while hijacking the booty. Marion is a solid defender and cares about his teammates and family.

Actually Moron, I was referring to the person that thinks Marion is a wonderfull player as being the one on crack:laugh3:

Of course Marion isn't on crack - no professional sports player would be that stupid except for Darryl Strawberry a few decades ago, but since you want to compare Marion to Kobe Bryant - My pleasure

Marion averaged in 30 minutes 12.1 ppg, 7.8 rpg(not bad) 2.4 apg

Kobe averaged in 38 minutes 27.3 ppg 5.6 rpg 6 apg

Since Kobe was cleared of all of the charges made by the whore that was trying to blackmail Kobe out of millions of dollars - that's no longer an issue now and you're really beating the hell out of a dead horse.

Like I said before - Cuban can only hope Marion would be stupid enough to opt out - I guarantee you Marion would be lucky to get a contact at 5 million at the best
