Its been a MINUTE!
hope you guys are doing good, see some veterans still here Shark, Skinsdad, gkekoa...tons I left out.
Wow, I think I have been overly critical of Cousins due to his pay raise, and the flops of Cutler and Oswieler(doesn't deserve a spell check). I feared committing to him would doom our hopes of repairing an awful defense. But looking at a few of the games we have lost, the defensive playcalling and NOT the defense has been the problem. For instance, the NY and last philly game...good defensive calls were made that put our players in position to get interceptions, while games like Detroit, Arizona and most recently Carolina....the play recognition just was not there, no blitzing on 3rd down, not covering a halfback on 3rd and short, and continuosuly playing a SS that has NO zone awareness. Offensively the same could be said.
I believe despite having a great offense this year, we are the WORST team in the redzone. We have a vanilla run scheme and it appears we don't adjust well when what we want is taken away defensively.
I've only seen Cousins blow the Dallas and Carolina game, no way you let this guy walk. If we move Cravens to SS or get a promising one in the draft, and find another legit rusher next to kerrigan, we should be a 10 win team even if Djax and Garcon leave.

feel free to criticize or agree!

Let him walk.

We can pick up Mason Rudolph in the 4th round and just plug him in. Country scouting service has this guy as a dead lock for the next Ultra Man at the QB position and at worse he can easily do what Cousins does. :trash:

I have always said I am a Cousins fan. I think he is a top 10-12 QB in the league. I don't think he is a Brady/Rodgers type guy. He'll have plenty of great games but he will have some like last night where he struggles some. I am really on the fence about whether they sign him long term. If I was going to bet a nickel I think they will franchise him again.

For whatever reason the team just did not play well last night. The line did not block well, Cousins did not play well. JReed should not have played. D was ..... the D. It sort of felt like we were playing a 5-8 team and we treated them like a Super Bowl team.

I think KC is top 5 in this offense.

We will sign him long term.

That's all I care about; how Big Cuz does in Washington's offense.

look i dont see a viable long term answer , putting a rookie qb in and using a 1st on him, sets the defense back another year

Is it even possible to set the Skins defense back? Another step or two back and the defense is falling off a cliff.

You missed my earlier comment. Many thought we couldnt get worse after Haz was fired.

Lets not tempt fate by saying we CANT get any worse. Cause fate can be real quick to take up a challenge and make us regret it. LOL

And let me state here and now. It took me a minute to getr on-board, but I'm firmly on the Kirk Cousins bandwagon. He's shown enough to warrant a long term contract imo. I'm by no means advocating kicking KC to the curb and drafting a rookie QB or going with Colt or Nate.

No criticism here, however there is one point that you made that should not be overlooked. "....the play recognition just was not there." This is something that GMSM has stated to be a major problem that needs to be corrected here in DC. The problem comes when making the distinction between "football players" and guys who can play football. Right now I believe that we have only two "football players" on the defensive side of the ball, Norman and Hall, one of which doesn't even play. Some here will understand this, while others will be left scratching their heads. For those who find themselves flummoxed, think about my earlier quote here. Surely, the two of us cannot be the only ones who see the obvious weaknesses in this team.

Come on Sty.. we both know that part of the edge guys like Mann, Manley, Riggins and the Hogs had was that in their own way, each was bat shit crazy. Riggo could out drink a platoon of Marines. Manley tapped out at te ability to spell his name, but was a QB terror. I for one would love to see old school slobber knocker god damn I bet his Mammas, mammas mamma felt that hit kind of football. Where your QB wasnt considered tuff because he is as big as a linebacker and can simply run over folks. BUt because week in and week out, if you could breath you were on the field.

But we are Dinosaurs boss. Defensive players with attitude today wear fur coats after a loss and risk getting fined and banned for making a hit. The roles have reversed. It used to be a gang fight on the streets was break dancing, and the football field was a dangerous place.

Now the streets are where you find the people that will hurt you, and the football field is where you get out played and trade jerseys and selfies after the game.

I get it, but dammit we need Football players period! I'm not even asking for more than a couple of them. Look at Baltimore, there is a legacy there that started with a guy that was tried for murder. His successor leads that defensive team today, and I'm betting that their safety and linebacker (can't remember names) will take the reigns when Suggs moves on.

Agreed, we need a couple of those types on defense. Sadly I think the meanest guy we got on our defense is the kid who said, I aint going to talk to my momma during Dallas week cause she is a Dallas fan. Maybe Whitner.. .but at this point he is more like the old guy on his porch shouting damn kids while he waves his fist at the WR who just blew past him for a TD.

With that the prosecution rests!
