Apparently a number of Atlanta radio stations were bombarded with calls last night and this morning with fans screaming that Harbaugh should've been flagged on Bowman's return for having THREE-QUARTERS of one shoe across the white and onto the actual field.

Of course it's not flag-worthy because Harbaugh didn't interfere with anybody on the return - official or player(s).

They didn't call it on Mike Tomlin and he was directly in the path of Jacoby Jones. Harbaugh might have barely stepped onto the field, but Bowman was ahead of him at that point.

Analysis from the Atlanta Falcons game coaches film - ************.com Forum

The breakdown is from a poster there so it's from an "amateur" but he does seem to know his stuff and it makes for a good read.

After reading through the thread it did make me feel better about the game and that we are in better shape than the game would suggest.

Some interesting stuff there and he makes some nice points. I'll be interested to read some of his previous posts when I have more time. Thanks for the link!

granted, we fans DO take the perspective the 49er offense SHOULD do whatever they want? we don't factor in enough......the defense's ability to make good plays. we factor in Seattle's D a lot, but much less for others.

That's not true at all Deep. We factor in SEA D because they are effective vs the Niners. Other teams with stout D like CAR was not taken lightly. But any team missing a pass rush, run stop ability, or pass defense will be rightfully discounted because the stats would prove that point.

then why do we read so much.........Kaep should've done that, we should be throwing against the 8 man box, we should be able to power run against them, etc. etc.? these comments are saying we should do it as we please. these statements don't factor in defenses, only our own offense.

take Atlanta prior to the game, stats would prove we should beat them down, but film review "prove" their defense played well.

so our discount of defenses is "not true at all"? we always factor in good defensive play other than Seattle?

First off, we SHOULD be throwing more against 8 man boxes.

The problem is that you are confusing in-game strategy with "discounting defenses". If I told you we have a #1 WR in Crabtree who is single covered because the other team, regardless of who it is, has 8 in the box, then why WOULDN'T we throw it more? If you then factor in that, say ATL's CB rate as some of the lowest in football in terms of coverage/production, then the scenario becomes MORE frustrating if we aren't. This isn't shooting from the hip commentary. This is based on statistics and probabilities. If an opposing CB is rated through the year as Deangelo Hall terrible, then we should look to exploit that. Is there a possibility of said CB to play well? Sure, but it dwarfs in comparison to the probability based on statistics that say that he will suck out loud.

Lastly, SEA is often referenced because they are built to beat us and we have to see them at least twice each season. They also have a top notch defense. It doesn't mean that we are discounting other defenses...unless they earned it.

We scored 27 points as a run first/run often, time consuming offense. The Falcons hardly played well, they just played better at times then their stats would indicate.

like that film reviewer said, the Falcon D made some good plays too. so he came to this conclusion after reviewing our offense against their defense. my point is yeah, we fans always feel (after game), our offense SHOULD'VE done this and that, whenever we wanted, without acknowledging a defense made plays.

could very well be I wrote it badly?

anyway, this is not referring to what plays our offense should call, against what alignment the defenses are in. this is not referring to in game 'management'. aren't you bringing this into the discussion, and creating confusion?
