Both of you guys & others here make valid pts. The problem is - as several have alluded to in this thread - that we are not the ones making these decisions. Ultimately it is all about the mindset of Snyder & Allen (don't care how many others are in the decision making mix).

I truly believe that both of these fools actually believe that they are very close to being a SB contender which is stupid. I think that Scott Van Pelt summed up it well recently when he encountered these two at the Eagles-Pats SB & said that both were extremely arrogant. Regardless of reality they probably believe that they are making good decisions & that they are only a year or two away from the ultimate prize. Sigh...

I think the team is building . The d/ line is doing well. We have 3 young Ilbs , we have a decent RB . Our defense made a huge jump . Our o/line when healthy is good . With decent qb play and a productive off season I see no reason why we can’t take another step .
Um, with the current regime, we will continue to rebuild. Our BEST player last year was a 34 year old RB no one really wanted. That says a lot about the current roster.

and if thats the feeling then why gut the team to get future building blocks that wont be used correctly ? i would rather watch RK and TRENT along with reed then a bunch of no talent stiffs

That is fair enough & given the fact that Snyder is a pompous idiot that is probably the best that we can hope for as long he is on the planet. We have seen this play out too many times. Their MO for the most part is having talent in spots, having various degrees of success but mostly a climate of failure. They then have some sort of semi-breakout season that is ultimately followed by a disappointing season (always followed by excuses about injuries, coaches, etc.)

I desperately hope that you are correct about building some type of atmosphere where they steadily get better & make the playoffs in consecutive seasons & build towards a true SB contender down the road. However common sense tells me that it will turn out quite differently. What on earth makes you feel that this team will turn the corner after 20 years of this crap? Please give me hope somehow.

Oh well - doesn't matter much. Stanley Cup playoffs are just around the corner & we can witness the only truly successful sports franchise in DC.

You want hope I will give you some . Jay Gruden took over a lousy no talent team and got it to being a 500 team . Our defense just put out a top 17 finish. After years of 30 or above . We have improved in some good areas ,we really just need good qb play to take the next step . Steps I have predicted throughout . If the team can make the playoffs consistently then we will have shots at superbowls

I hope that you are correct. In my eyes Gruden is a .500 coach - nothing more, nothing less. I also have not seen any development from Gruden over the years in areas such as player motivation, in game adjustments & clock mgmt (this one really baffles me).

I also question your statement about the only thing missing is good QB play. I see plenty of holes on this team that go well beyond QB play (WR, DBs, LB, etc). The first step will be making the playoffs in 2 consecutive seasons - I will believe that when I see it - don't see it happening in next few years. I pray that I am wrong.

I see it happening with better qb play . Yes we gave holes but we have 9 picks

Fair enough. I agree with that, but is it enough? Is the goal simply to improve the team somewhat & make the playoffs every now & then or to achieve true success? Again IMO the only long term goal that matters is winning the SB. Do you truly see this team heading in that direction say in the next 3 years?

That is why I would be OK with obtaining someone like Rosen if the required picks in trade are not that great. If he fails - big deal - you dump him for next to nothing & get another QB (& no it doesn't have to be Lawrence or the next big thing). Ditto - if you have to say trade a T. Williams you at least consider it if it puts you in better position in a few years. No - you don't dump the entire roster - you look at both the long & short term outlook. Again - I am not saying get rid of all vets - just consider your options.

I just want to see this team start to consider their future beyond simply the upcoming season. I hate to see this team suffer for another 10-20 seasons & that is certainly possible with Snyder at the helm.

Bruce Allen says that "we're close" so expect more tweaking from year to year. (I wonder what he meant about being "close?")
