I really enjoyed the video in this link.
I often think he never gets enough credit. partly because, I am usually talking to younger people that maybe never watched him play. just reading stats or something. I dunno.
but he was my favorite RB on the Cowboys ever.

He was special. Have to admit I was a huge Denver fan in 88. One of my all time favorites.

The Staubach-Dorsett Cowboys.

That's when the Cowboys were America's Team.

I got emmitt and Dorsett as co-favorites. Both hall of famers. Yeah as a young kid, I could not wait to watch Staubach and Dorsett, Randy. White,Drew Pearson, ,Butch Johnson, too tall, etc. Such great teams. Then if course those early and mid 90's teams were just superb until Jerry ruined the dyanasty by disrespecting Jimmy Johnson.

so jerry I got this message for you today:

Walt Garrison.

Not flashy, not a show-off, not holding up the team for a big payday. I think he also did real cowboy things like bull riding in the off season.

Always in there on short yardage situations and inside the 5.

Ah, yes, those were the days.

Interesting post....Walt's nickname was Puddin. Everyone on the team loved the guy. Dallas had some very like able FB's back in the day. Don Perkins before Garrison and Robert Newhouse after Walt. All three were somewhat small for the position but earned great respect from the team for the way each played the game..

I lived close to Walt. One of my favorites ever.

I loved the triplets. But TD was my hero growing up. Hard to replace my hero. Same with Roger. Sorry Romo or Dak or whoever holds the rains, favorite QB ever on the planet will always be Roger. Nobody will replace the "favorite" from the childhood. Harvey Martin, Randy White and Too Tall stand next to the football God Tom on the defensive side.

he was so fun to watch.
When he decided to hit that next gear just makes it that much more impressive that Darrell Green caught him.
Rare to see anyone catch him from behind.

Thanks for memory lane :thumb:

I saw both TD and Emmitt play in person. I won't pick a favorite.
Tony was flashier, quicker and faster. Emmitt was a tougher runner, an awesome blocker and pass catcher.
Stats wise, about the same yards per carry Dorsett 4.3 .....Emmitt 4.2
But obviously, Emmitt has far better total stats.
Emmitt 226 games....TD 173 games
Emmitt 18,355 rushing yards.......Tony 12,739
Emmitt 164 rushing TDs.....Tony 77 rushing TDs
There's about 10 rushing yards difference per game average.....Emmitt on top
Both players basically ran the same play to the Hall of Fame. I formation, half back lead draw.
Tony was given so many carries by Landry and then taken out of a game.
Emmitt stayed in most all the games till the end.

I remember Tony's first great run vs. the Cardinals at Busch Stadium.......77 yards .....I was there.... October 9th, 1977.

COWBOYS won 30 - 24

great game.....Staubach, Drew,Tony, Randy, Landry.

Tony didn't get to start much early in 77. The Cardinal game, he started the second half.

But the COWBOYS have been blessed with great running backs.

Duane Thomas
Calvin Hill
Walt Garrison
Herschel Walker
Marion Barber

DeMarco Murray
Felix Jones
Don Perkins

Tony Dorsett
Emmitt Smith

IMO TD was a better runner than Emmitt and I'm fine being in the short line on this one...

I concur!

Emmitt had a better (longer) career, but I have been waiting a long time to find another TD for this team.
