Just kidding.

If we drafted an offensive tackle and a defensive tackle in the first 2 rounds, I'd be thrilled.

Book it.

Doesn't count for much, but IMO Flowers is the best LT prospect in this draft...probably can start on the right side right away.

Waller...really a project, not a plodder, athletic kid...not as polished Martavis Bryant (and he was considered raw), so it might not happen this season, but he's could be a huge steal.

Holliman...I'm hoping we get him 1st.

Yeah, that seems low for Holliman to me, as I expect him to maybe go as high as second round, but I had looked at several Prospect Ranking Lists and it has Holliman going somewhere in the 3rd. If Holliman is not available here because the Steelers are jerks and take him from us :) then I would like TE Jeff Heuerman with this pick instead and maybe down near the 6th take a chance on a different safety or another LB.

Most mocks have PIT taking an edge pass rusher or CB...the options are pretty limited @ 22 for an impact front 7 player...3 to 4 CBs will see time on the field as rookies...maybe a shot at one of them.

My point here...after that...it's wide open, I can see PIT going OL, DL, TE, or S.

I like the DT, but if the WR from Miami is there in the 2nd round...I think he's the pick.

Not a bad choice there. I had thought about Phillip Dorsett long and hard here, and I would have taken him in that situation as well, but I sit here and look at the really good teams, and they have 3 noticeable traits typically..

1) Great QB (which we will not be getting)
2) A stout OL to protect that QB
3) A stout DL to keep teams from running all over them.

We have Green, Sanu, and Jones. While that is not great, it is serviceable. Then we look at DL, and while adding MJ makes our DL much better, Atkins has not returned to form yet since his injury, Peko is on his last leg, Still is a bust, and Thompson is strictly a run stuffing DT.

Keep those big, fat lines stocked with talent and it makes all the play makers that much better.

I really like Dorsett too, and the likelihood of Jordan Phillips being available with our 2nd pick is less likely than Phillip Dorsett. So if they are both available, I think we have to go with the DT personally, but if not, Dorsett should be the pick if he is still there and Jordan Phillips is not. Damn, that is too many Phillip(s) in there as comparison. I was confusing myself talking about them.

You're an idiot!

LOL

I follow. I don't disagree, actually. Sound logic. I was just going off - the defense hasn't been the issue, and we all know they only go as far as Dalton can take them. The more weapons on offense he has, the better (in theory at least).

Here let me rewrite this for you....

"You're a genius!"

"the defense hasn't been the issue while Burfict is healthy, and we all know they only go as far as Dalton can take them."

Wasn't just Burfict, though.

Atkins, loss of MJ, no develpment from Hunt, Gilberry over used, Peko stinking, Rey M hurt (and let's give him a little bit of props here, the defense did rebound a bit when he returned), the backup LB's were terrible and simply not ready, Newman began showing his age...

I'm just saying there was a lot more going on than just Burfict. Certianly, though, he adds an element that can't simply be replaced, there's no doubt about that.

But, as I keep saying, I'll trust that the defense can get back on track and that if this team is going to win, they need Dalton to play better, much better, and they need to surround him with as many weapons as possible.

Why? Because we have great tackles? We have 33 year old Andrew Whitworth going into the last year of his contract. We have Tits McGee going into his final year of his deal. And we have Eric Winston -- A nice back-up and an insurance policy that couldn't catch on with any club until we picked him up late last year.

We'll probably need a good tackle sooner rather than later and most franchise tackles come in the first round. To me, that would be sound judgment.

Because we have vastly bigger needs than an OT who won't play at all this year outside of an injury. We need a DT, we need a LB, we still need pass rush help. OT isn't a big enough need now to take it in the first.

Since when do we draft for our immediate need? Of guys drafted during the Marvin Lewis era, only three have started their first season -- Gresham, Rivers and Green. Eifert and Hall played a lot early and J-Joe played a lot late in the season. That's not immediate impact. Tackle is a big need now and in the future.
