And here is the reality of it all

I looked up what he said and he was wrong in one point. They weren't those games back just from the second WC spot, but from the third WC spot.

They were 6 games back form the second WC spot on July 1st and 4.5 games back from the second WC spot on the 29th. So in the month we picked up 1.5 games to the second WC spot and .5 to the third. Either way, this current play will take us til December to catch up.

Back in the Felix day there was an old question: Who is better 1) a Pitcher that has a 3.00 ERA but his team scores 2 or less runs for him or 2) a Pitcher with a 4.00 ERA but his team scores 5 or more runs for?

Yeah I can’t remember which pitcher it was but they put the numbers up and dude had a 5 ERA and had more wins than Castillo. It just sucks for us fans that, at least in my lifetime, it has been an either or with really good offenses and really bad pitching staffs or vice versa

The entire mystery is solved over the next 2 weeks of baseball.

Last nites win was kinda big as it sets us up to take 2/3 vs AZ ( if we lose the series with AZ the fat lady is walking up to the mic )
Both LAA and NYY lost last nite so we gained 1 full game on each in the WC hunt. Good News

Our next series is against the 2nd hottest team in baseball right now ( 5 game win streak Boston ) Bad news

If we take 2/3 vs AZ and also take 2/3 vs BOS. The fat lady stays away from the mic stand.

After BOS is a 4 game set against LAA where we must at least split 2/2 minimum ( ideally 3 of 4 + BIG ask )

Anything less than 5 wins over our next 9 games and the Mariners season is over. That is counting tonite game 2 vs AZ.

If the M's do successfully win 5 out of 9 games their reward is a 5 game home stand with BAL and SDO. Where they MUST win 3/5 ( another BIG ask )

That carries them into mid August and a 4 game set w/ KC ( breather - MUST take 3/4 vs the Royals )

That is them winning all the next 5 series and splitting the 2 game set with SDO 1/1

Odds of that happening .... I will guess 25%

I do not think our team is good enough to pull off what I just described above.

Do I hope we can ? well hell yes! I simply think the odds are stacked against them and the Mariners front office sees the exact same scenario infront of them that I just laid out here, and they DO NOT see it happening or we would be BUYERS right now instead of sitting on both our thumbs

Why is France starting nearly all games at 1b?

He has 1 single home run in the past 30 games and is batting a paltry .174 over that same 30 game stretch

If our intent is to win baseball games.

You sit pudgy on the bench and hand him a few corndogs and stick Ford in the lineup at 1st base.

I would be OK putting Moore at 1b in lieu of France at this point. He is completely worthless offensively and he ain't no defensive gem either.

But how do you give the guy 3rd base and make zero attempt to keep him from running there?? No excuse for that, knowing it was the go ahead / winning run in the bottom of the 8th inning.

We are such a poor disciplined team that simply cannot accomplish basic baseball 101 fundamentals that other clubs can with ease.

Nice stat from Wilson. Mariners are 5-10 when Castillo pitches including losing his last 3 which he has a 2.86 ERA in.

Site was down for a few hours
