ESPN insider article - Snippet below:

The Oilers have three things working against them – climate, lack of success and they’re a Canadian team, which is one common characteristic on these lists. Given the choice, agents said most players don’t necessarily want to play in Canada.

“I hate to say it but it’s the Canadian teams,” said one agent. “Vancouver would be the most desirable out of those teams. There’s Winnipeg and Edmonton, Toronto because of all the bad media and Montreal -- either you love it or hate it.”

“I can tell you, it’s pretty much automatic that Edmonton and Winnipeg are the first two names anyone comes up with,” said another agent. “Winnipeg is at least winning a little bit. Edmonton is a complete nightmare.”

Top four are:
  1. Edmonton
  2. Winnipeg
  3. Sabres
  4. Senators and Leafs tied
Honourable mention to New Jersey, Florida and Arizona.

I saw a reporter tweet that Devan Dubnyk said he hit rock bottom one morning when he woke up in a cheap Hamilton hotel and he pulled the drapes and he saw a Tim Hortons with bikers outside of it

to which i replied ... cant be worse than playing for Edmonton

then a Coiler fan chimed in to tell me to shut my "cock holster"

thought that was rather rude :bawling:

I'm gonna take Calgary not being mentioned by name as a good sign.

Florida and Arizona? Beautiful weather, no media glare, no state income tax in Florida...it's almost as if players are simply avoiding terrible teams. And the two awful cities. Edmonton checks both boxes.

I forget what players they were talking about but there was a trade where one of the players went to Florida and the other went to Vancouver

one of the traded players said he was happy to be going to a non-hockey market and the other said he was happy to go to a hockey market :noidea:

Looks to me that team success is the most important factor (i.e. it certainly appears to take precedence over a city's reputation)

Team success is important for sure - teams need to be established before players really start to come in

Guess it boils down to preference, which is fine. I may call you a pussy because you're a 220 lb man playing a physical sport and earning millions to do so and are afraid of a 150 pound wiener with a laptop writing mean things about you, but still fine.

This is the first time I've never seen the NYI on this type of list.....winning cures all. That and Brooklyn probably helps.

Completely random question, with the new board does DE's or BWF's login become active again?

What a difference a year makes. I imagine the Isles would be 1st or 2nd on the list last year.
I think they would have done OK actually. They definitely are exceeding everyone's expectations this year, but I think a lot of guys would have found the prospect of playing with some of their young guns like Tavares and co. appealing.

It would be appealing for those guys looking to stay out of the intense media spotlight markets too with the Rangers hanging around.

Things might have changed when Wang sold the team, but he's still in charge for awhile yet. They had to overpay to sign Grabovski & Kulemin. The fact that both players signed was surprising to me though. I think once they signed Halak things changed as well. Now they have to find a way to resign Boychuk. Garth has yet to resign an UFA to be. If he can sign Boychuk it would send a big message.
