Morse claimed by Orioles

Michael Morse has apparently been claimed off of waivers by the Orioles.

Oh well whatever. I liked Morse but Seattle needs so much help atm.

I guess the front office believes in out tandem of michael saunders, dustin ackley, and franklin guitierez. Ackley has been real solid, if he can just maintain a .270-280 avg next year, utilize his speed and play good cf defense he's a more than capable starter. Ackley in cf also allows guti to play rf, less range and crazy plays required so maybe less chance of injury? Guti is a very good player when healthy but that's the only question. As for saunders, if he can just hit .250 instead of .220-230 he would be much better to put in the lineup.

Overall I like morse and raul but their defense can really hurt us sometimes. Having ackley, saunders and guti we will have one of the better defenses

Out of everyone we have in our outfield rotation, Morse probably brought the least to the table at this point. Plus it opened up a spot for Walker without having to do any more roster shuffling.

You do realize that this means nothing. Just because a team claims him off waivers doesn't mean he is leaving. The Mariners and Orioles now have a certain amount of time to make a deal or the Mariners will just pull him back onto the 40 man.

The deal's done. The Mariners got Xavier Avery in return for Morse. Avery is a 23 year old LFer with a career .260 batting average in 6 minor league seasons. He has played 32 games for the Orioles this year, posting a .223 average with 1 HR. At least, this is what is being reported by Yahoo! Sports.

From everything I read leading up to this trade, it was inevitable that a deal with the O's for Morse was going to get done. It was just a matter of how soon into the process a trade would be finalized. Apparently the Orioles had already been talking to us about Morse since before the last trade deadline, so there was reason to believe that if he went anywhere this time around, it would be Baltimore.

I had high hopes for Morse but things didn't go as planned. I really wanted him to thrive here. Hopefully he can stay healthy and can help the O's...just as long as it doesn't hurt the Rangers.

You can question me all you want, I was just pointing out that I try not to post things like that without them being correct. Sorry if your "You realize this means nothing" was at least an hour late and completely incorrect to the information that was out there. Now I could have posted the yahoo link with my first post, but it was on the yahoo homepage so I figured I was probably a little behind everyone, since I wasn't looking for it.

I do realize how waivers work, which is why I refrained from commenting on the thread until there was information that Morse was actually leaving.

So, you can question my responses all you want, God knows I've been wrong plenty of times, but when you're attempt to educate me on a topic fails, you could always act like an adult with an "ok, thanks, I hadn't seen that yet" or something.

Now if your response wasn't actually meant to be condescending, like it came off, then I'll apologize in advance for the misunderstanding.

Morse seems like a good enough guy. Rough luck with the injury after the hot start.

I'm guessing he'll get back to being a consistent power guy who hits above .270 for whichever team he lands on next year.

I don't live on yahoo either, just happened to be checking an e-mail address I had with them and it was the first story on their ticker. Being about the M's, I read it. It wasn't like finding the information was all that hard.

I actually liked michael morse if he didnt get hurt im sure he would have the same numbers as raul ibanez at the very least he was launching balls in the beginning of the season. Im guessing its one of those things were we had no plans on resigning him so lets put him on assignment and see what we can get for him
