Rumor Roundup: Lucic’s time with Kings could be short as Kopitar deal looms | The Hockey News

They should get rid of Brown. That would give them spending room. I can't believe I just said that.

No surprise to anyone I have been on the get rid of Brown train for the better part of 5 years now, but I think that is what will need to happen. I keep repeating myself, but I fully believe Lucic was brought in to put Brown on notice, not to replace Williams. Lucic plays well = contract extension, Brown = shopped. Some stupid GM will take him, or even better would be if he was taken in an Expansion Draft.

The Brown deal is arguably one of the worst ones Dumbo has ever written - I'm talking his career too, not just in LA. Doughty and Kopitar have earned every penny of their deals to date, the jury is still out on Quick's deal although he has fulfilled his end so far, but the Brown deal...holy hell, I think Dumbo was hammered when he agreed to that with Brown.

There have been some doozies (Cloutier anyone?) but the dollars and term for Brown are god awful all the way around.

I dunno. If not for Brown we don't win that first Stanley cup.

I understand what you mean and agree. But Brown's play has fallen way off the last coue of years. I now believe that what he is getting paid is not justified.

Completely agree, he was huge in 2012. His best stretch of hockey ever in his career was Feb to June 2012. He hasn't replicated it since, and his downward trend is alarming - he looks like he is on the Mike Richards path to useless.

He scored a key goal or two in 2014 but nothing like the monster he was in 2012, much like Richards (I am amused at people, especially Flyers fans, who think he coat tailed a Cup in 2012. Richards was nothing short of playoff beast that season).

Read a nice piece on LAKI yesterday that mentioned him getting a nutritionist this summer and he looks absolutely cut and in good shape. Hoping it translates onto the ice in a few weeks.

Not really trying to outright defend Brown but I would think being the kind of player he is this extra time off could be a big blessing for him. Im pulling for the dude mostly because it helps the Kings out if he does well but I also want him to do well and stay part of this team his whole career.

I think this is a make or break year for Brown. If he doesn't come close to being the player he was from 2008-12 (especially in 2011 after Kopitar went down, he really carried the team for the last 3 weeks of the season to get them into the playoffs) then he should be shipped by the trade deadline as his value of 2 Stanley Cups can't be frowned upon.

As for Richards, sadly I don't think he was the same after sustaining a concussion against the Hawks in the 2013 playoffs. While he had sustained a concussion during the 2011-12 season, his play during the 2012 playoffs (especially in the first 2 rounds) showed that he was money when it mattered. But since the one he sustained in 2013, he'd been on a straight nosedive into the abyss, forcing him to the 4th line and ultimately waived. Sucks, because his locker room presence can't be understated, and his leadership on the bench was invaluable.
