I like some of their stuff, hate others. holy Grail was great, life of Bryan had it's moments, meaning of life was good.

I love that "Your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries" was subtitled as "I can imagine what your parents were like" in the Japanese version...

Any of you real fans should check out the two pre-cursors to the Flying Circus: Do Not Adjust Your Set (with Idle, Palin, and Jones) and At Last the 1948 Show (with Chapman and Cleese...which also starred Marty Feldman).

Do Not Adjust Your Set actually started as a children's program that aired in the early afternoons, but so many adults liked it that they began to re-broadcast it in prime time. Terry Gilliam also did animations for the second season, as he would later do with MPFC.

I watch this stuff and still laugh. I know every line of Holy Grail, and still laugh my ass off. And the same for most of the series. And to put it down to "teenage nostalgia" is to not see it for the several steps ahead that it always was. A lot of shows, from Laugh-In to SNL to all of the imitators along the way know they owe at least part of their existence to MPFS, which of course was the next step after The Goon Show, ...1948...TITWTS....and all the rest. But Python took them all a step further....
And a note..."british humour" is a very bad very broad description. Is Benny Hill the same as Python? Hell no. Benny Hill is sophmoric, and considerably less....intellectual than Python, yet both are "British

Absofrigginlutely. ......."i'll have everything on the menu in a bucket"

AND DON'T SKIMP ON THE PATE'!!!!!

I saw Meaning Of Life in the theater when it came out...half the audience left during that scene, the other half howled uncontrollably with hysterical laughter.
A cute girl was sitting next to me with her feet up on the chair in front of her...she slowly slid down from laughing so hard during that scene and ended up with her butt on the floor and her feet straight up. I was so incapacitated from the humor that I couldn't even help her up.

Oh man i would have loved to have seen it in a theatre. As it was , my Sister and i had just smoked a nice one out in the garage and watched the Meaning of life on TV. We still to this day say "I 'll ave everything on the menu in a bucket" when we dine at each others homes. Our respective Spouses think we're:agree: nuts.
