Makes no sense for the Phils. They need controllable assets for the future, not pending free agents.

The reason he needs all those steals and triples is because he's needs to compensate for his lack of overall power and not so good OBP....when you're only hitting 2 HR and have a total of 36 extra base hits over 600+ at bats, you better be stealing a lot of bases to get yourself into scoring position.

But the obvious problem is that batting average tends to be first thing to go when players decline....when/if he declines to a .275 hitter, what's his OBP going to be, maybe .300? No amount of speed would compensate for that combined with zero power.

While this is all true, Gordon has shown steady improvement with every year in the league, that's got to be encouraging to teams. If he improves his ability to make contact he will be a lethal player, he did not bunt very often until last year and it did wonders for him. The Marlins' stadium should work to Gordon's advantage as well.
