On home runs versus other stats:
Home runs are great, but even the best home run hitters don't hit them all the time. Building a lineup of them is asking for inconsistency if they don't hit for average and draw walks.
Statistically, it has been shown that getting on base (read, avoiding outs) is the most important component of hitting. It maximizes the odds of favorable sequencing. Having some pure power bats is great, and it's a good idea to have one or two in your lineup, but the focus of most successful offenses is getting on base first and foremost.
