Frank White and his 8 gold gloves
If he had made a spectacle of himself and did a cartwheel before every game, he'd be in

Ozzie
.262 / .337 /.328 / .666 87 ops+

White
.255 / .293 / .383 / .675 85 ops+

Would him doing cartwheels have moved him from 2B to SS or something?

George Foster definitely belongs in the HOVG. There was a 3 or 4 year period where he was arguably the best player on a team of Hall of Famers. I guess he had too short of a "prime" to get into the HOF.

Frank Tanana. Flame throwing power lefty who had gone over 250 innings three times by the time he was 22. Three time Top Ten CYA by the time he was 23. Then got hurt and recreated himself as a junk tossing lefty with an eephus pitch. Who almost won 250 games.

Eddie Cicotte. Not sure if Eddie being banned for the Black Sox scandal did in his chances for the HOF. But it definitely turned him into a forgettable great.
Amazing that Tanana hung for another 15 years as a smoke and mirrors guy after he lost his fastball at such a young age.

People act like there is a huge gap between the defensive responsibilities between 2nd base and shortstop. There isn't.
But if you need an equivalent comparison, would Maz be in the HOF if he hadn't taken down the Yankees with that homerun in the 1960 WS?
Sometimes, when you are a borderline HOFer, all it takes is a single feat the media picks on and idolizes, and it puts you over the hump.
Shouldn't be that way, but it is.
Frank White is as much of a HOFer as Ozzie and Maz are.

in actual responsibilities, very little. In how they are treated by HoF voters, it is vast.

You need a much better arm at short. And quickness is a must. 2nd basemen can knock balls down and still get most outs.

Placido Polanco didn’t have an error for years and he had no wheels. Also a borderline HOVG. And don’t know why him and his pumpkin head never got lumped in the HGH rumors.

There’s no way he and Maggs weren’t juicing with Pudge in Detroit.

Dwight Evans
Rusty Staub
Al Oliver
Dave Parker
Bill Booted It Buckner
Carlos Delgado

the list is massive
I thought Dwight Evans had a pretty decent shot at the Hall of Fame. I bet if the Red Sox mixed in a World Series win or two he'd be in.

He deserves it more than Rice does.
Yeah he had the better defense and OBP, but Hall of Fame voters look more at the RBIs and MVP votes. I gotta say, in the mid to late 70's with Evans, Lynn and Rice the Sox were pretty set in the outfield.

Heard one the other day that made me think of this thread........Steve Finley. Gold glove, all star, solid speed and pitching. Very good all around player.

I'm surprised he didn't win any gold gloves. He was kind of like Harold Baines but he actually played centerfield and played it well, whereas baines spent a lot of his career as a DH.
