Like if I was having a conversation, I wouldn’t say “I did text so and so”, I would say, “I texted so and so the other day”...”I did text her the other day”...sounds strange to me
You can use both, did just sounds strange imo
I would, texted has always sounded like incorrect grammar to me.
"I did text Bill the other day but he never did text back. Perfect English!
Just to sum this up from my perspective.
Saying texted to me is like saying cactuss for the plural form of cactus instead of saying cacti. While technically not incorrect texted just sounds stupid.
But on the other hand adding did is unnecessary. This is why I usually skip the whole word in general, I use sexted...which is probably just as bad lolz

IMO, "text" is a type of messaging and thus an adjective and not a verb. So in reality it should be "I text messaged ___". Messaged should be the verb and not text.
But I guess it's much like "email". Email is more of a noun, but people use it as a verb too.
