Joe Maddon won Manager of the year. OK, I guess, but with all the injuries in LA, the Puig fiasco, I really thought Dave Roberts deserved it. Sure he made some mistakes in the post season, but these are supposed to be season awards.

Cy Young- Porcello
MVP- Betts

That's all that really matters to me. I have a good feeling about both.

Anyone that doesn't vote for Trout should be banned from voting, and possibly imprisoned.

I thought Verlander deserved to win CY Young, Porcello was really good but it seemed like the only category Porcello had him beat in was W-L record. Idk how 2 writers kept him out of their top 5 votes, and I'm not the only one who feels that way...

I would have gone with Kluber or Verlander, but let's not act like they were miles ahead of Porcello/others. They all seem somewhat interchangeable to me.

Trout and Bryant should be no-brainers for MVP, but Betts will probably end up taking it in the AL. Seager/Murphy will probably steal some 1st place votes as well.

It sucks for Verlander that Porcello was awarded for the wins, I guess they thought the other stats were close enough to give him the nod because of it. Porcello had CY Young type numbers, but just a little bit behind Verlander and Kluber. Even if somebody wanted to put Porcello 1st, Verlander should have easily been top 5 for everyone voting if not top 3.

I'm taking nothing away from Porcello, he had a hell of a year. He was CY Young quality in 2016, but there were a few others that were better. Not a runaway difference between JV and Porcello, which is probably why they allowed the wins to factor in.

Wins and losses are an awful stat for judging pitcher performance, but (very) good run support wasn't the only reason he amassed those wins either. He went 5+ innings in every single regular season start he made and went 6+ in 30 of 33 starts. He only gave up 4+ runs in 8 of his starts, but he never gave up more than 5. He allowed 2 or fewer runs in 15 of his starts.

Porcello had a game score of 60+ in 18 of his starts. He had 11 with 65+ (which is considered a "gem").

Year-by-Year Top-Tens Leaders &amp Records for WAR for Pitchers | Baseball-Reference.com

This year's group of top pitching performances felt kinda weak, though some of that also has to do with Kershaw missing a good chunk of the season (he still finished 4th despite throwing only 149 innings). If you go by bWAR, Verlander's league leading 6.6 is the lowest by a leading pitcher since Don Cardwell in 1961 (not including Blyleven in 1981 because it was a strike-shortened season).

Verlander allowed 2 runs or fewer in 23 starts. Had more strikeouts, a better WHIP, a much better BAA, a better ERA, etc.

The only thing Porcello led Verlander was wins, which will happen when you are given an absurd 3 full runs of support more per game. So congrats to Boston's offense for winning the Cy Young.
