Basketball is my least favorite of the big four but I still pretend to know a little about it.

We still need to do a hockey draft.

maybe because your SportsHoopla name reminds Ritz of a **** star or film, he doesn't like others getting action when he isn't, blakstroker.

I never saw A ahead of E, for what it's worth. (It's that damn Don Kelly, so much HEART. He just spurs his teammates on to victory.)

Interesting side fact/opinion, despite having Cabrera and Pujols, by the numbers team D could very well may have only the 3rd best offense remaining.

Not that I don't appreciate your effort here stoker. I most definitely do. But were talking Albert Pujols and Miguel Cabrera hitting back to back in a lineup. I can't worry too much about Hard Hittin' Carlos Quintin or Starlin Castro taking the lineup down a peg. (Castro at nine is no slouch.). Rizzo is what makes me stop and think. I drafted guys with a three or four years period in mind. (One year philosophy and Im pretty sure I have the best closer.) Not one year and not what might come in the future. There's a .247 hitter following two HOFers. That's the angle Im going to need to be worked on in order to not see GandyNos as the best lineup. (Im left brained, raw numbers don't do it for me. I need a story involved.)

Now, I am a raw number guy. A few weeks ago I cheered for the Mariners to score 8 runs in an inning so that the two 8 run innings they would've had this season came on dates that combined came out as 8 (5/3; 7/1). I came up with that stat on my own, it wasn't something I heard on the broadcast or read anywhere. They scored 7, and I felt cheated. I suffer from OCD, so I like things to make sense and have tangible evidence. SO, I usually look at things more statistically, cause in the end to me they make sense.

Every line up but 1 hits for over .300, Has an OBP over .370 and slugs for better than .500. Every team hits HRs, every team steals bases, walks, they all pretty much do everything. The problem that I have with that team is that the entire line up isn't anything to write home about except those two hitters. Every team has at least two hitters who've performed at an elite level at their peak.

Here - the #3 hitters for each team left:

152-629-529-121-183-31-2-36-89-2-2-82-94-.346-.436-.616-1.052-326-7-9-0-9-5
133-571-518-95-186-40-3-32-100-8-1-43-95-.359-.411-.633-1.044-328-11-5-1-4-5
159-716-607-97-197-48-9-29-104-26-0-99-127-.325-.420-.577-.997-350-10-5-0-5-9
157-685-591-137-212-51-1-43-124-5-1-79-65-.359-.439-.667-1.106-394-13-10-0-5-12
138-606-523-94-191-30-1-28-96-4-1-76-63-.365-.444-.587-1.031-307-13-2-0-5-14
160-711-604-113-196-42-1-30-107-34-5-94-115-.325-.416-.546-.963-330-14-6-0-7-6

Here's the #4 hitters:

157-685-574-102-177-41-0-33-121-2-0-97-93-.308-.410-.552-.962-317-17-7-0-7-13
162-719-591-103-177-35-3-46-141-2-3-110-138-.299-.412-.602-1.014-356-14-9-0-9-21
162-712-608-105-179-36-2-36-109-14-0-96-181-.294-.395-.538-.932-327-14-6-0-2-26
148-652-555-103-193-26-1-44-137-3-0-90-94-.348-.442-.636-1.078-353-19-5-0-2-19
158-713-636-120-216-50-6-36-137-11-4-63-126-.340-.405-.607-1.012-386-23-10-0-4-7
159-715-630-108-213-45-3-27-117-1-0-74-119-.338-.410-.548-.957-345-28-6-0-5-20

I know, it's number overload, but the point is, that yes Pujols and Cabrera are the best two, but that doesn't mean that the rest of the lineup works as well as the rest of the teams' does, and Pujols and Cabrera just aren't that much better than what the other teams have at #3-4 to make up for that. Team B still hits over .300 without their 3 & 4, Team J is at .298 and Team E is at .296. Hell, Team G still has an OPS of .894 without their's.

The problem with look at players peaks (as I see peak) as that it's the year they were their absolute best. It could last one season, 2, 3, 10. But there is one year that is best, and sometimes its hard to decide which year that is, others it's real easy. But, the reality is that Pujols may have outperformed these players over the decade, but his one best season (or peak) isn't as big a gap from their best season, which is why the numbers bring Team D, back down. I see the line up being 5th without their 3-4 and they are anywhere from 1 to 3 with Pujols and Cabrera.

Pujols and Cabrera are great, but there isn't a 3-4 combo out there right now that doesn't have 2 great hitters.
