Peca is probably just pissed because his career arc went from good player and Captain of the Buffalo Sabres up until 2000, to a still relevant player up until 2004 with the Isles.....and then a tits on a boar hockey player for the last 4 years of his career. He's probably taking the last 4 years of his career out on JBouw. That said, Bouwmeester needs to show why he's paid like a #1 defenesman.

lol theres that ... or he wants more tsn panel time and wants to be taken seriously in his new gig and not fall in to the category of former player now in media who wont tell the truth and prefer to be milquetoast because he doesnt want to offend guys in his former fraternity

i see Peca just being honest which is refreshing. The guy was a warrior his career and it was ended from injury more than anything. He has had his past but his career gives him the right to say that. If it was someone like Tyler Arnason saying this that would be different, guys like Peca have the right to comment on a players style for their accolades whether its in good taste or bad in a persons view

lol, fair enough. That said, I think there's a balance you can have between telling the truth and reaming a player unabashedly. I think he could have said something like this: "There's no way to sugar coat it, Bouwmeester struggled last year. Jay still hasn't fully developed his compete level to match his talent level. When he competes, he's a great defenseman. I played against him and you could really tell when he was competing hard and when he was a little soft in the corners. If he doesn't bring his competitive level up on a consistent basis, he's going to find himself in the same rut he was in last year and the Flames can't afford that.

I think that's still calling out JayBo without just trying to make a name for yourself. In my humble opinion of course. I mean, how would Peca characterize his own play for his last 4 seasons? Would he like a player doing the exact same thing when assessing his play?

no offense but if he went with what you wanted him to say ... from start to finish ... Darren Dreger's mullet would have grown an inch and Blob Mac could have written a book on being a hockey grandfather lol

I dont think anyone would attack Peca's desire or compete level in the latter part of his career ... diminished skills and injuries got the best of him ... Im sure its kills him slowly to see someone so ultratalented as JayBo pretty much not being all that he can be because of a lack of desire, confidence, heart

The encouraging thing for me in this pre-season that it already looks like JayBo is much more engaged with the offense, and I hope it continues into the regular season. You look at all the top teams (Washington, Vancouver, Chicago, San Jose etc.) and the defense are aggressive in the offensive zone and helping the forwards with puck possession. This was sorely lacking with the Flames last season. Yes, it probably means that you will give up more odd-man rushes, but the Flames have a world class goalie and the days of winning games 2-1 and 3-2 are over, in my opinion.

lol, no offense taken. I more meant he could have said something along those lines. That's why they have editors.....and I am not one of them. But yes, it would have been fun to see how many burgers Blob could have put down in the time it would have taken to say my piece.

Well sure, you have to attack what's there to attack. I'm competitive as all hell too, but I shouldn't be playing in the NHL. But if someone said in 2005, "Hey, Peca's will and drive are there, but the guy shouldn't be playing Bantam hockey at this point in his career", I'm sure he wouldn't think to kindly of it.

Nevertheless, it's all good, I actually agree with Peca's assessment. I just thought it was funny how quickly people can cast stones once their roles change.....that's all.

Ugh...Bob McKenzie just tweeted that Ken King was on Calgary radio talking about Peca-JayBo again. Just let it go, Ken.

Well, apparently Ken King has talked to Mike Peca regarding his analysis of JayBo and they've kissed and made up.

I was expecting it to go

King: Hi Mike ... hey I was thinking, we're pretty thin at centre ... How would you like to
(Peca interupts)
Peca: yes
