Although... off topic and sorry... I really hope we can hold on to Tuukka till TT retires. Rask would make almost any team in the East better in goal.

Edit: Imagine Tuukka in Philly or Washington. They'd be significantly better.

He would, but only because he'd be consistant, something that our goalies can't seem to understand how to do (although Vokoun has been doing really well lately)

He is, but he is a little bit like younger Green. Great offensively, okay defensively. I think 5.5ish like 46+2 was saying is a bit high for him even after this year.

well he's somewhat big (flyers d is lacking there cause coburn plays like pansy in 70 games/season -- but those 12 you better watch the eff out).. and he can get shots through, which the flyers are lacking as well.. but meszaros has been much better of late getting the puck on net

really i just like saying 'the wide man' when he's on the ice haha

The market over-values the hell out of defenseman. Ask Pen fans about how much was spent on Michalek and Martin.

the market over-values every position but goalie.. but for some reason homer doesn't see that.. leighton making almost twice as much as chris mason and dan ellis.. and bryzgalov making 4 mil more than vokoun and for 9 freakin years

goalies get undercut, big time, every season.. but not if you get signed by the flyers

The only concern in this equation in my mind is health. Is Green going to come back to being a productive/healthy player?

Green is a better puck mover, bigger hitter, better shooter, better playmaker, and better defensively than Wideman. Now it's tiny degrees on all those cards, but I can't find an area where Wideman is better than Green. And you can see it in the record too - the team struggles without Green, but it works okay without Wideman. I'm not sure there is a D-man in the NHL that moves through the defensive and neutral zones with as much ease as Mike Green. And we could use that b/c our transition from defense to offense has probably been the single biggest factor hurting our O this year.

But I have a simple solution - trade Semin for someone cheaper or just don't re-sign him... and keep them both.

I don't think you can afford both, and sign Alzner and Carlson long term, and replace Knuble and Semin, and get a decent second goalie, and lock up a good starting goalie for a lengthy deal.

We can't just throw some AHLers into Knuble and Semin's spot. We can't expect Carlson and Alzner to cost us 2.5 total for more than one more year. You canr have a budget of 2.5 for a goalie set. Neither Green nor Wideman are going to sign anything other than a long term deal. They both have experience with injuries and this is the contract where they cash in.

We could sign both if Green (well either but I'd definately prefer it'd be Green) signed a short term deal. Brouwer is Knuble's replacement and an argument can be made for Kouznetzov to be Semin's. Neither are really getting a huge pay raise and we'd have quite a bit of Cap Space still. But after next season Alzner will get his pay raise and his long term deal and most likely a year or two after that Carlson will get his and at that point if one of them isn't gone we will be right up against the Cap.

Well, Alzner is already signed for next year, so that's not a worry. And I think Semin will be addition by subtraction, but reasonable minds can differ. I think Knuble was already replaced by Troy Brouwer. Knuble no longer has a prominent role on this team and his skills are not what they were two years ago.

I think it's definitely possible to sign them all - won't be easy. But I'd rather see some value forwards and keep those guys. If it's not possible, Wideman is definitely the odd man out. That said, Carlson needs to pick it up. Don't get me wrong, he's a great player. But he can play better than he has this year.
