Cool. I'll have to try it sometime.

it states at the bottom that an Xbox 360 can hook up and play through XBOX One. Does that mean the graphics and speed of the 360 get enhanced? if so, I will be picking up a Xbox One this weekend.

No, it means that the XBox one transfers the display from the 360 to the screen.

would be so much nicer if it just played a 360 disc.

The reason most next gen consoles aren't backwards compatible is because they generally use a mostly to entirely new program structure, resulting in a different way of both processing data and actually executing code. It would significantly decrease the efficiency of the new console if you kept the same constraints as the old model had in order to play those games as well. You'd end up paying more for a console that could do less.

Unfortunately there is no money to be made by letting you use games you've already bought on an older system. If they really wanted to make it happen they could, but there is no incentive to.

Since my PS3 still works great and nothing transfers to the PS4, I'm thinking I'll buy an xbox1. No reason not to, I can then play PS3 games and Xbox games. So I can finally play halo.

The engineering issues are very real. They could do it, sure, but consoles are very specialized and optimized to do what they do. It would cost more, both in terms of money and in the performance trade offs that they would need to make, to make the consoles backwards compatible. Yes, the lack of financial incentive obviously plays a role, but if it were a simple matter of deciding to do so, the consoles would be backwards compatible. It is a substantial undertaking to do so, though. It would put unneeded constraints on the new system that are simply not worth the compromise.

If it were easy, there would be money to be made. Not a lot on the scale of the whole new console, but enough to do it if it weren't such a significant undertaking.

I have both and personally like the XBOX more. My only complaints are that Microsoft doesn't give you a rechargeable battery pack in the box and they way they organized videos on Netflix is a little screwy. I don't really Skype or anything, but I find the Kinect to be useful especially if you're just going to watch Netflix (there's no reason to get any remote involved including the TV). You can walk right into the room and say "XBOX on" and it turns on the system and the TV. I don't have cable so the NFL app is pretty awesome (if you have a subscription or know someone with one and get the info you can also watch RedZone). I think it's cool you get a bunch of free workout videos like p90X and Insanity for being a Gold member.

With the selection of games right now the PS4 is kind of blah. The Order 1886 looks cool but it won't be out for a while. FIFA has good graphics and gameplay but I'm looking forward to something that really uses it's graphical (is this the word I'm looking for?) potential since there really wasn't much of an upgrade software-wise. Yea, now you can party chat but there isn't really anything else I've come across that's different. Also, like I said above I've already worn to the plastic on the left thumbstick on the controller playing sparingly so that seems to be made more cheaply than it's predecessor.

I honestly have no understanding of coding. Is an emulator not an option?

what do you mean rechargeable battery pack? Like for the controllers?

And the one saving grace that might draw me back to the PS4 is that game H-Hour that I'm dying for.

Doable? Sure. Worth doing? They apparently do not believe so.

As a really rough estimate, I believe the code involved in doing so would be similarly complex to the writing of the original PS3 OS from scratch, although that does depend in part to exactly how similar the back ends are to each other. There may be some short cuts you could take and lower that some, but even if you cut it on half, a PS3 emulator would not be an insignificant project.

You just get a set of AA batteries to toss in it. You need to buy the rechargeable pack as an addition. It's not a huge deal but it's still another $25-$30 to spend.
