Guy hasn't done shit. He's making the defense worse by being out there.

He missed the entire preseason with a knee issue..... I think he'll be fine.

And the one thing he is currently doing is making sure that Gilberry only plays limited snaps. That guy is really good when he doesn't have to play every down.

Clark is starting to make noise too.

I'm more worried about our inability to to defend simple run plays at this point.... It seemed like we were playing the entire first half with 10 guys on the field.

Lamur, Rey M., and Hawk. The defense rests.

The linebackers are up and away the Achilles heel of this defense. Raise your hand if you've heard this story before?

Sounds about right.

Maybe one of these days we will draft one worth a shit. Or not. It's whatever.

You know how Marvin cut his teeth? As a linebacker coach..... LOL!

Wasn't Billick supposed to be an offensive genius who had one of the greatest defenses in NFL history with no WR's to speak of and a QB who was a game manager in Dilfer?

I don't get it. What are wrong with these guys. Do they think they are so smart with one position that they can draft anyone and make them into gold or what? So far, the LB experiement has been miserable. I thought we had something with Burfict, hell we still might, but until I see him on the field healthy and making plays and inspiring others around him again, we have to shelve that talk.

Any rate, be nice to have Carolina's LB core.

I would construct our defense with:

St. Louis Defensive Line
Caronlina's Linebackers
Seattle's Defensive Backfield with Chancellor

We probably have enough salary cap room to make that happen

Who are/were the best linebackers during the Marvin Lewis years.....

Burfict and Thurman were the best. Vinny Rey was the best developmental project. We've had a few vets that played nice roles (Howard, Jones, Harrison). But overall, it's been an underwhelming 13 years at the position.

well, if we had a good LB, we would probably let him go via FA. we can't afford everything.

Brian Simmons comes to mind. He wasn't spectacular and rarely made spectacular plays, but he also never made terrible plays like we're accustomed to seeing from Rey M. Odell Thurman would've been a HoFer of he wasn't a stupid mother Fer. The guys they've drafted there, Pollack, Rivers, Rey... Just terrible.

Simmons was a solid vet, but I don't think he ever lived up to his potential given he was a first rounder. And he was drafted by LeBeau. Marvin spent his first couple of years chasing undersized guys.

I misunderstood the past about guys Marvin drafted, I know he was drafted prior to Marvin's arrival. And, like I said, nothing spectacular, but tell me you wouldn't take a sure tackling linebacker that's in the right spot 99% of the time in this group.

No doubt. He was better than anything we currently have going....... But I will say that the linebackers were pretty good yesterday.

Our best LB core in recent memory had to be: Takeo Spikes, Brian Simmons, Steve Foley.

If Burfict comes back to his former self, this will be a damn good LB core with the way Maualuga has been playing lately.

Burfict, Maualuga, Lamur/Hawk
