Michael Irvin HOFer, but not Rod Smith? I know, I know, I am pissing in the wind.

Rod Smith was an undrafted free agent. This is one of those cases of Dallas America's team bias. Is it not? Please, explain.

Except for one incident, Rod Smith was pretty much a model citizen. He never missed one practice. He even attended every rookie work out and all volunteer work outs.

Did not miss one. Not that that should matter all that much, but to me it speaks to the character.

It will not go anywhere, but like I said. It is a clear example of media bias.

Stats from different players in different situations don't tell the whole story. The Offenses were pretty different and in order to equal Irvin's stats Smith should have been way higher than Irvin from a pure stat perspective.

Over Irvin's 8 year streak where he was at his best he averaged 1,287 yards per year. The next closest Cowboy in each of those years averaged 676 once and never had 900 yards in a season. That is a true #1...

Looking at Smiths top 8 consecutive years he averaged 1,173 yards which isn't too far below Irvin, but the next closest Bronco in each of those years averaged 977 yards!!! Almost 1,000 yards per season and exceeded 900 yards in 6 of those 8 seasons.

To try to compare a system WR like Smith to Irvin is just way too far off base. Smith was a good player, but he was no Michael Irvin...

But you are right, he was a nicer guy. So he's got that going for him...

Michael Irvin, once he put it all together after year 3, would have succeeded anywhere. Don't know if I feel the same way about Rod Smith. I'm also a Cowboys fan, so there's that...

The issue here, really, is that they are two different types of players. Irvin was the flashy, big play WR, while Smith (correctly or incorrectly) is perceived as the solid possession WR. Possession guys are rarely seen in the same light.

As for their stats:

Irvin was a higher percentage of his team's receiving yards (28.78% vs. 25.61%), higher percentage of receiving TDs (31.10% vs. 23.94%), higher percentage of his team's offensive yards (19.37% vs. 16.96%) and higher percentage of his team's offensive TDs (16.01% vs. 13.88%).

About the only things that Smith has going for him in the direct comparisons is receptions (22.89% of team's total receptions vs. 21.06%) and that he didn't have a HoF QB and RB playing with him for the majority of his career.

While those are some pretty cool and interesting stats between Irvin and Smith that blstoker posted. I do believe Smith gets dicked when it comes to the HoF question. Despite whatever type of WR people considered Smith. He was Denver's #1 WR and he put up #1 WR type numbers consistently throughout his career .

I've seen very similar discussions a few times on this very topic. That being why doesn't Smith get any HoF consideration when receiver X is all, but a lock with receiver X always being Irvin.

Kinda reminds me of the Barry Sanders/Emmitt Smith debate. I personally thought Sanders was the better RB, but Emmitt was a great and HoF-worthy RB in his own right.

Far as R Smith/Irvin goes. Irvin would be Barry Sanders for me as I thought he was the better of the two. I don't know if I've seen a WR use his body and physicality better than Micheal Irvin did. He was by no means a burner and if he had more 16-20 yard catches than anyone ever has in football. I wouldn't be surprised as that's where he earned his money and why his YPC is so glossy.

Still though, like Emmitt, Rod Smith was a great WR. Unlike Emmitt though Rod doesn't get anny love.

Whether or not he deserves HOF doesn't really matter to me. Smith is by far the GOAT Broncos WR. Remarkable that he worked his way up from UFA to reach that status.

You are hilarious. You will stop @ nothing to clear Brady's name. First you started going after NFL teams & now you have moved on & are going after CFB teams. What's next Rock...will you attack some HS programs in a weak attempt to prove to yourself that Brady's done nothing wrong?
