Yup just got the alert also. Hoping this lights a fire for a SB run for the Seahawks.

Seahawks defensive lineman Michael Bennett will sign a lucrative three-year extension with the club this morning, Jason La Canfora of CBSSports.com tweets. Seattle already had Bennett signed through 2017 and the new pact will keep him under contract through the 2020 season.

The new three-year block is worth $31.5MM with $17.5MM in guarantees, Ian Rapoport of NFL.com tweets. Perhaps more importantly, the cash flow on the deal is favorable for Bennett. He’ll earn $16MM of the deal in 2017 and $19MM in total by Mar. 5 of 2018.

Given the Seahawks' history under PCJS, I'm assuming at leas some of the $31.5M in "guarantees" is injury-only, and that they could move on after 2 years if they ended up wanting to without much of a penalty.

Great timing on this deal. I would have been done in the off season but the team gets a little more bang for its buck by doing it now.
Is Kam next? His play looks to have tapered off just a bit, but he remains a core player on this team.

I thought he had 2 yrs left? With his play which kind of declined a tad, I think the FO might wait. If he plays lights out in the playoffs maybe he gets an extension.

Kam is an UFA in 2018. If Seattle wants to extend him, they tend to do that in the off season the prior year (which is this off season).
I agree that he appears to have declined a little. I think he still has 2 or 3 years left.

I'll be interested to see where the Hawks are cap wise with the increase to see if they can extend Kam and still have enough for o-line FA.

There are just a few LT's that will be UFA's. There are a few more at RT, Sowell being one of them.

Browns have 2 very high draft picks, I wouldn't mind seeing Seattle get back into talks about Joe Thomas. Give up a first for him.

Fuck our tackles! Neither of them shoud be starting in the NFL.

I don't blame Fant. He could develop into a servicable piece, and maybe even a starting LT ability-wise but there is just no excuse for having him starting with his lack of experience. It is totally ridiculous.

Last year it was Okung and Gilliam, this year Fant and Gilliam. You heard the saying " for lack of a nail"?
Kind of feel Gilliam has been that nail that been lacking. Undrafted FA who was a TE is senior year with the Nittany Lions, he was last years Fant except in 2015 he was a little more polished then Fant. Seahawks were high on his potential, they felt they had a gem in the rough. Rumor had it ( last year rumor) that the Seahawks felt with his quick feet he would make a idea LT.
Oh what a disappointing season he has had. Got some routine surgery, ended up missing OTAs and took a huge step backwards. Not only wasn't he ready for LT, he wasn't up to snuff at RT. Hopefully he can bounce back for the Seahawks next year, because I think the Seahawks were counting on him this year in a big way. Guess they were overly optimistic in that regard. Think missing all the OTAs played a part in it, so with better health next off season maybe he can still be part of rebuilding the OL, maybe....

Gilliam has had a terrible year. For all of the positive reviews going into this year it has truely been a worst case scenerio.

Gilliam just doesnt have the talent, neither does fant. I dont care how much time they have to gel, its not going to work. We need real talent on the OL.

I don't think there is enough info to judge Fant yet. He will probably pan out to at least be a back up but Gilliam does appear to be a lost cause. Give Fant some more experience before writing him off. His trial by fire is the fault of management and coaches, not his own.

Agreed. We're talking about a guy who's never played there before at any level, and he's held up ok I think. Not great, but not horrible. We don't even really know how much talent he has because his lack of experience is going to override it for now. We'll see what the coaches think of him and where he may be able to improve to with a full off-season and camp as the LT.
