Lol, whatever. Buck and Byrd weren't in plans for the future anyway. I just think it's funny how Alderson made a big deal about how the Mets would have to be "overwhelmed" to consider moving Byrd. Ah well, that's my Metsies! :rollseyes:

I know they do, but this was so transparent it was laughable.

Who says they didn't try in July? Maybe they were just asking for too much or the right offer didn't come across the wire.

Sandy said he said there was very little activity and that he had no real interest in moving Byrd because it would make them less competitive in the short term. I guess once your only bright spot goes down for the year there is no more pretending your in it and can start unloading.

I think it's a good deal for both teams. With Hanson in the minors and Mercer just debuting at the Majors, Herrera might have found himself blocked anyway. He has a very good shot at being a top-notch Major Leaguer. He could also flame out. He's too young and too far away to know for sure.

The Mets weren't going to win before Buck's and Byrd's contract ran out, they might as well get an asset who could be useful in that timeframe.

The Pirates got a backup catcher who lets them send Sanchez back to AAA to get more seasoning playing every day and a significant upgrade in right field. Both are only one-year solutions, but honestly, they only really needed one-year solutions.

Yuck, thank god Scott Kazmir never really amounted to much. What a horrendous deal.

It's still an atrocious, inexcusable trade even if Kazmir never threw a MLB pitch. They could have gotten so much more for him. He was an extremely hot commodity. Instead, they got a pitcher they could have just picked up off the waiver wire.

There are lots of pretty good players that are FA but I think it's crazy to peddle one off this late and get an unknown in return. The Mets are not that deep in prospects and Byrd has shown he can provide some some help -even for next season. And even if he wanted more money,it would have been worth it, since he makes so little.
Buck has poor numbers but is a viable backup that costs nothing

Mets with worst/most illogical trade to the Pirates

They unload 2 guys who have excellent stats and RBI production and get virtually nothing in return. And it can't be a salary dump because neither player was highly paid.

Anybody make sense of this?

the two players are washed up, old and really only playing because of a watered down league and only able to START on a crappy team...they are both bench players on good teams and to teach the young guys dos and don'ts about "baseball lizards"....

You should have been able to pull Gerritt Cole...your GM sucks, especially after getting nothing for the 36 yr old Cy Young winner....get a rope.
