Mets need to do something, their fan base isn't going to tolerate much more waiting around. The money is freed up, spend it.

He walks a lot and is a high on base guy which Alderson loves. Granderson and Cruz seem to be the 2 big bats in the OF this offseason, of the 2 I guess I'd prefer Granderson since he isn't coming off of a PED ban.

Although lately he hasn't been an OBP guy, largely because how much his average has dipped.....only topped a .330 OBP 1x in the past 5 years (2013 being an injury shortened year, but his AVG/OBP being in line with what it was in 2012).

Unfortunately I don't see us going more than 3 years with him, which you can't blame them. Would love him on a 3/45 with an option for 4/60 and add Cruz.

Granderson Talks are intensifying it appears. This may very well get wrapped up here in short order.

7:44 am: Talks are intensifying between the Mets and Granderson on a three-year deal, but New York may need to guarantee a fourth year to get the deal done (Rubin).
I like it

8:30 am: The Mets and Granderson see eye-to-eye on a three-year deal, but he’s still looking to get four; Mets are hopeful a deal can get done, according to people close to the team ([ame=""]Cerrone[/ame]).
8:30 am: The Mets are moving forward on Granderson, while showing less interest in OF Nelson Cruz ([ame=""]Rosenthal[/ame]).

Get it done, Sandy!!

Lock him up and let Sandy focus on the trade market at the winter meetings.

Wouldn't be a bad signing. He had some freak injuries last season. He'll give the Mets some pop in the outfield and is a good person. He'll frustrate you with striking out and misreading balls in the outfield.

The Mets may be the only team negotiating with free-agent OF Curtis Granderson for what could end up a four-year deal worth as much as $17 million a season, according to multiple reports…

8:25 am: The Mariners and Red Sox could post the biggest threat for Granderson to the Mets, who do not yet know if his price will remain in a range they consider reasonable (Martino).
7:50 am: The Mets remain optimistic they can finalize a deal with Granderson, and there is no evidence the White Sox or Mariners are pursuing him ([ame=""]Heyman[/ame]).

Jesus, the Mariners are the new Yankees if these rumors are true. I mean seriously, are they linked to every useful FA this year?

It's nice to see teams like the Mariners get involved and try to build winning ball clubs. Gets annoying seeing the Yankees constantly throw out stupid money every offseason, that other teams can't compete with.

Curtis Granderson Rumors: Thursday

By Steve Adams [December 5 at 12:13pm CST]
Yesterday it was reported that talks between Curtis Granderson and the Mets have intensified, and the Mets are becoming increasingly optimistic about their chances to land him. The Red Sox reportedly haven't ruled him out. The Diamondbacks, though they strongly desire a corner outfield bat with some power, aren't likely to be able to afford him. We'll keep track of today's Granderson rumors here...

 • Granderson's talks with the Mets are more advanced than they are with other teams, [ame=""]tweets Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports[/ame]. Other teams remain in the mix, however.
 • Scott Lauber of the Boston Herald [ame=""]tweets[/ame] that the Red Sox are more interested in right-handed outfield bats to complement Jackie Bradley Jr., so they don't see Granderson as a great fit.

 3. Have a little more insight into what's going on in negotiation: Guaranteed 4th year for Granderson still up for discussion, per source.
Just get it done already before somebody else steps in.

I dunno, I think the Mets may be bidding agsint themselves at this point. 4 years would make him what 37 when the contract is up? I'm not sure how well his game will translate with age, but if we're the only ones in the mix and we're offering $17 million per I think he needs to accept that that's the best he's going to get. Club option for a 4th, if he's worth it then he gets paid, simple as that.

Well yes I prefer that 4th year is an option as well, but they may not.
