Not too surprised with Mesko...he's a free agent next year and Allen gives them some cap room. I thought Forston would make the team. They're thin inside...even considering Wilfork...bada bing. They probably think Armstead will be back soon....hopefully... or they better start looking at the waiver wire.

Allen has a huge leg and Mesko is a free agent after this year and thanks to AH we have some extra money ties up with him. That said I am sirprised at the cut.

I don't think money was an issue. I was assuming he legitimately beat mesko out for the job, which wouldn't mean much on the importance of special teams.

Personally, I think it was a combination of the two. Allen did just enough (slightly more, actually) than Mesko, to run neck-in-neck in the competition AND...the savings cost in salary. With free agency looming, I think this was a no-brainer, even though I think Mesko's a good guy. He'll get picked up somewhere, fairly quickly.
