I have Bryn Renner, UNC's QB going in the first round, too. Doesn't mean squat.

JF is too small to play like he does in the NFL. Tebow learned that he could not run like he did in college. JF will have to change his game to be a top pick and if he does try, then TAMU will not be as good this year.

Actually he did just fine running. He took over a 1-4 team to the playoff and won a wild card game. However, to continue to be successful he had to learn to throw the ball somewhere in the same zip code as the receiver. Manziel has that ability. I'm not saying that he is NFL ready, he needs to approve on that and his presnap reads. If he can demonstrate those abilities this coming season and looks to be a top 5-10 draft pick then he will be gone. I would love to see him stay an Agiie for 3 more years but, I can't blame him for chasing the money.

Tebow got hurt in a preseason game by a DB. He learned to not run as much and rely on his arm more. That was his change. JF will need to do that same. He cannot run like he does now, in the NFL.

kaepernick and Wilson still run in the NFL and so did RG3 before his leg problems. And before we point to that as a reason not to run also note the redskins play on the worst surface in the NFL for running on. That field is a total joke and will end the career of RB's and anyone else who runs on it often.

You can run in the NFL as a QB, you just need to know when to slide and when to just throw the ball away instead of taking big hits. The pussification of the NFL has made it so QB's take a lot less damage than they used to.

Ryan Leaf...lmao!

Don't be jealous old butter teeth couldn't get him over to Austin to play some back-up safety for t.u. How does JFF compare to the two elite QBs over there? At least when they pull JFF out of the game it's because we have a big lead not the other way around.

If I recall, I think Stoops recruited Manziel as well, and Manziel was interested......But Stoops was looking at him to play Safety or Reciever. Which was a big turnoff for Manziel. So I am sure the Cottonbowl as Manziel was dancing with the D all over the field, Stoop's just couldn't help but look over at the bench and see Landry sitting by himself.....and think WTF.

I seem to remeber that Steve Young was a running fool when he came in to the NFL. He worked on his passing and managed to win a Superbowl and was "alright", I guess.

You are using an exception to try and prove a rule. How many running QBs won SB? I think SY was a passer who could run but he also took so many hits hit ended is career early.

No, what I am doing is showing you that it can be done. It's not impossible. Steve Young worked on his passing skills and learned a system and how to read a defense. I'm not saying that Manziel is the next Steve Young. I'm just saying that it is possible. You can't just say that this QB was a running QB in college, theres no way he makes it in the NFL.

Both supports and detractors of Manziel are make judgements on his future in the NFL (and this season) based on a sample size of 1 year. I think the kid had a great year and he has shown me no reason to doubt that he can repeat it this year. However, I want to see him work on the abilities he will need at the next level. If he can demonstrate those abilities this year or next if he stays in college, then he could be an NFL QB. If he doesn't then he will have to settle for being an outstanding college QB and first freshman to win the Heisman Trophy.

Mel Kiper has Johnny Manziel going in the 1st round of next years draft.

I have to say I am a bit surprised. How does Manziel compare to Tebow in regards to star power or athleticism? Is Manziel better?

In today's NFL no one should be surprised on how early a QB gets drafted no matter who it is, there size or there athletic make-up.

Manziel will be a Top 10 pick if not higher

A lot of people said that about Steve McNair also.

When JFF gets drafted don't expect him to be starting the following fall. He'll probably be put 2nd or 3rd behind a really good veteran that only has two or three years left in the tank and have to compete for the starting job later on.

I hope Jerry Jones is paying attention.

Just off the top of my head...How about Fran Tarkenington, he seemed to do "alright" in the NFL.

Thats too long ago for you. OK. How about Ben Roethlesberger. He has 2 Super Bowl wins and he makes plays by scrambling and improvisation.

Fran Tarkington played in the league 30+ years ago when DL were 250 pounds and LBs were 220 pounds running 4.9 40s. It was a running league back then, and nobody had seen the likes of a Tarkington or a Staubach. The athletic DL and LBs that we have in today's game were very few and far between during those days of the NFL.

As for Roethlisberger, he is 6'5" and 240+ pounds of solid man. He also stands in the pocket all day long taking numerous hits while delivering strikes down the field to tightly covered receivers. He also has a big time arm. Much stronger than Manziel.

The best comparison for Manziel is Doug Flutie. They are mirror images of one another.

Manziel is hyped up beyond belief. The majority of his so called great stats came against cupcake teams where A&M left him in the game well beyond what should have been, and/or games like LaTech where they had to score 60 to win and LaTech had a horrible defense.

If you look at the games where he played good defenses, his stats weren't great at all. Not many TD's, many more fumbles and INT's.

The only good game he had against a quality defense was against Alabama. And even then it was really just a 1st quarter he did well, with 21 quick points before Alabama adjusted and all but shut him down the rest of the game. While Manziel got all the credit for the game, it was actually the defense that won the game for them, not Manziel. As AJ threw 2 interceptions in the game, when he only threw 3 total for the entire year. 1 of which was a game saving INT in the endzone.

Quick rundown:

Florida: 1 rushing TD only.

SMU: 4 passing TD's, 2 Rushing TD's

South Carolina St: 4 passing TD's, 2 rushing TD's. (When Alabama played FCS, McCarron only played like 2 drives total or something small like that)

Arkansas: 3 passing TD's, 1 rushing TD

Ole Miss: 1 passing TD, 1 Rushing TD, 2 INT

LaTech: 3 passing, 3 rushing, 1 INT

LSU: 0 passing, 0 rushing, 3 INT

Auburn: 2 passing, 3 rushing

Miss St: 2 rushing

Alabama: 2 passing

Sam Houston st: 3 passing, 2 rushing, 1 INT

Mizzou: 3 passing, 2 rushing, 1 INT

Oklahoma: 2 passing, 2 rushing, 1 INT

Bolded teams are teams he played that were good. The Oklahoma game came after the Heisman, but it was a good game for him.

Additionally, for all his so called speed, he was sacked 22 times last year. Which isn't bad, but it's not like he's that much better than everyone else in the getting away department.

Any team who picks him up would be stupid to do so. So that means - Raiders, Cowboys, Bills or Lions.

He might play in the NFL someday, but 1st round would take a Tebow type pick. Call me a homer, but I won't be shocked if AJ McCarron goes before he does(probably 2nd rounder as well). He had 30 passing TD's and only 3 INT's last year, has a good arm and can throw the deep ball. He had a QB rating of 175 last year, 20 points higher than Manziel and was also only sacked 22 times(can debate line quality I guess, but he knows how to get rid of the football and protect it).

But hell, maybe he will improve his passing this year against better defenses. He's certainly not a bad QB, I just think he's a tad hyped is all.
