Sorry, two related but disconnect thoughts into my first sentence. I meant to say: given his salary, he won't be claimed by another team. As an unclaimed FA, it wouldn't surprise me if he thinks his best chance at getting back to the show is via Sacto.

By declaring himself a FA, it allows him to double dip a salary.

Wouldn't 6 weeks of shitting the bed for nothing at all also be a mistake?

Not as big of a mistake...

So were the prospects any good? Were they ranked outside of the top 20 for the organization?

Flores has some potential. Castillo was never on my radar.

It sounds sorta like the Hellickson deal trade we did. Making a deal because you were desperate to fill a need. Traded 2 young former high round picks, 2nd(13), & 7th(12) for him. The guys weren't ranked in our top 20 but had some possible upside to them. Still many years away from knowing. Luckily Hellickson has started to turn it around. But he is still on the bubble as to whether he remains on the team for the whole season.

Saw this tweet from Alex Pavlovic and it instantly got me as hard as a month old baguette:

The #SFGiants everyday infield is now:

Posey (28 yrs old)
Belt (27)
Panik (24)
Crawford (28)
Duffy (24)

Susac 25

The only infielder that doesn't work is Arias who was not home grown and 30 years old. It time to replace him.

Now we need some of those 30 home run OFs and we'll be all set.

OK, this thing just got even more confusing...

McGehee was NOT DFA'd. He was optioned.

Apparently, he had a remaining option, but enough MLB time to be able to deny the option. He accepted to assignment and will be in the lineup for Sacto tonight.

Marco, why didn't you tell us about this????

I'll bet Marco is getting a slice of that extra salary McGehee is double-dipping on...

I know you're kidding, but I never went looking further than :

McGehee has over 5 years of service time. He can refuse the assignment to the minors and still collect his $4.8M salary.

Besides which, every news outlet, and mlb.com and ESPN, said "DFA'd". Now, part of being DFA'd is passing thru waivers (as I've explained over and over and ...) :D

Oh, and since his first game in the majors was more than 3 years removed from today, he has to pass thru a special options waiver. So IF he had options remaining, he still had to go thru waivers.

In the paper today (Merc) they also said DPMcGehee was DFA'd. I've never heard of this happening before - it's almost as if the Giants said 'oops - we were kidding'. Normally, DFA is non-revokable, and involves outrighting the player to the minors (and taking him off the 40-man). So I am really at a loss as to how they 'optioned' him to the minors.

They were also still using the term "DFA" all day today on KNBR. I think Boch even used the term in his pre-game show.

I think we (and lawyers) are the only ones who really care. tz's head must be exploding right about now...
