Murray was Plan "B" because no one believed he would be available. Did anyone here think that Dallas would be stupid enough to let this happen?

I generally agree with the OP here, their original plan that included McCourty didn't work out and they went to plan B (or C even), but I think it is missing one crucial piece.

Chip Kelly honestly looked at his situation on defense, and after being in this league for two years now and watching this stuff, he says to himself "Fucking shit, Chip. I really need a cover linebacker, and you know what, I know a great young cover linebacker. I'll go find out what it will take to get him."

Chip calls up the Bills, asks them about Alonso, and says anyone on our team is available. The Bills mention Shady and Chip Kelly hammers out some details to everyone's delight. How else were we going to get a linebacker that can cover?

Chip even said it himself. "You have to give something to get something." They wanted Alonso.
