MBBRL Suicide League Draft Thread

I thought this was kind of funny.

Y! makes draft report cards now where they analyze every pick based off of projected points and give you a grade. These grades came out an couple days ago.

Once the draft ends, I always do a quick analysis to see who drafted well and what the other teams look like. Most of the teams I thought looked like they would be a potential threat to mine scored C's or worse. The three teams who were awarded A's, I picked to be among the cellar dwellers.

Let's see if you guys agree. This team was awarded an A+ and given the highest grade in the draft. I don't think it is horrible, but it certainly isn't good either. Keep in mind, this is standard scoring for position players and 6 points for passing TDs. They are also my week 1 opponent. Here's the team:

Is it just me, or is this team very mediocre?

Doesn't look too appealing to me, but there are no obvious weaknesses except at WR1.

I agree. Looks to me like they put a high value on Brady/Martin/Graham trio along with (maybe) their highest ranked D.

similar in my league on yahoo. team with best grade I pegged as a 4th-6th seed in the playoffs, no where close to #1 overall.

no one graded lower than a C, which I guess means that Cs = Fs, since C is the lowest it apparently goes.

Well, it's not just you I can assure you that. Not sure of their rankings/gradings, but I'm sure Jimmy Graham and the Seahawks had something to do with it, which is pretty easy to disagree with.

tlance, I think the Y! grading system kind of goes hand in hand with how Y! does it's player rankings. So the closer someone drafts to their rankings (whether it's deliberate or in novice fashion), the higher their score.

Fortunately for us we're much too smart to fall into those predetermined player rankings.

Also, some of the teams did not draft kickers, which lowered their grade. All the teams who got As drafted back-up QBs too, giving them more bench points.

Sounds cool, but reminded me of why I started posting on the former unnamed imploded message board: So-called experts can be wrong too.

There are enough credible news sources and statistical information on the net to help you form an opinion (which turns into a ranking) about a player. And maybe, you might just run into a great group of guys who tend to look at the game they way you do? And to consider things that maybe you missed.

And its free! Am I cheap or what?

Absolutely correct Joe. Check the highest ranked experts on fantasypros. Mid-60% 'correct' will get you top billing. I said this several times before, the best experts are only right about two-thirds of the time.
Keeping with that logic they miss 1 out of 3. You have to do your own homework. ....

• First round was very similar. Rice and Spiller swapped 5/8 spots
• Harvin #15 overall in the suicide (courtesy of me)
• From suicide to A league, Ridley and Gore moved up ten spots from #29 (Duff)/#34 (Sam) to #19 (Fuzzies)/#24 (Sam)
• Murray jumped up 19 spots from #42 (Sam) to #23 (Ram) - figure the injury fears kept him down in the suicide league
• Crabtree at #30 in the suicide (Tlance)
• Aaron "Harry Potter" Hernandez at #46 (TKO)
• Gronk fell from #36 (Scape) to #52 (Monkey)
• Torrey Smith fell from #47 (Scape) to #71 (Ram)
• Le'Veon Bell jumped up a freakin' 44 spots from #69 (ww) to #25 (Sam), and apparently sprained his zatch doing it
• Gio Bernard jumped 37 spots from #76 (ww) to #39 (ww) - after I saw what Sam did to Bell I wasn't going to let Gio suffer the same fate
• Mathews and Sproles both jumped 27 spots from the 6th round (Duff and Lefty) to the 4th (Scape and Fuzzies)
• Ball moved up 21 spots, from #67 (Monkey) to #46 (TREFF)
• But this was all child's play to Shane Vereen, who jumped a whopping 59 spots from #109 (Scape) to #50 (Ram)
• The award, though, goes to Bradshaw, undrafted in the suicide league and going at #53 (TKO) in the A league
• Other top 8-round A-league picks undrafted in the suicide: Dwill at #66 (Tlance), Vincent Brown at #87 (ww), Hillman at #88 (Lefty), and Pead at #94 (TREFF)
• Maclin went at #61 in the suicide (Scape)

I’d chalk up low draft positions for Murray, Gore and Mathews to injury fears in the fixed-roster suicide league, so in the short-term it looks like good early calls on Ridley (Duff), Bell (ww), Sproles (Lefty), Ball (Monkey), and Vereen (Scape).

Can’t include Bernard because I took him in both places myself, so maybe I’m just nuts.

Strained zatch? That's funny. I knew Bell wasn't getting by you and figured Lacy wouldn't make it back to me. The WR that were left at that point did not excite me so I figured go with Bell, what the hell.

Seems weird, since he seems to be getting healthier.

I'm not so sure you weren't right all along, and Bernard will be the cream of this year's rookie RB crop.

Great pick by scape in suicide league.. Vereen's value changed since the suicide league tho with the loss of Hernandez and release of Lloyd and the questionable Rookie Wrs.. Vereen will turn into New Englands Darren Sproles this year.. Its my opinion but I feel the writing is on the wall
