The ice rink was from 2010-11, but YES! In the time while I was unemployed, I decided to go ahead with the rink so I collected scrap lumber (and got some donations from friends too) and made a rink 40 feet wide by 90 feet long. Pretty big. Because of the topography of our property (we're on 2 acres), I actually framed out the rink in our FRONT yard since it was more level. I also mounted flood lights in the maple trees so we could skate at night. Had a portable fire pit to warm up too.

Everyone enjoyed it. Someone was skating on it nearly every night. No exaggeration.

I'm between Chicago and Rockford in Illinois. Actually closer to the Wisconsin border than either of those cities.

Was gonna do another rink the following year but I got a job. I don't even know how to navigate in Facebook anymore? I haven't updated my profile either. But the rink pictures are embedded somewhere in my Facebook page?

Not to hijack the sleeper thread... but how does Lefty - living in Florida become a Yankee, Ravens and Colts fan? How does Barilko go from the Texans to the Canadiens (from one end of the continent to the other? Treff is traveling the continent in the other direction from the Raiders to the Braves, and then the Cowboys? What gives? How does this happen?

First off, the rink is totally cool man! Second off, when I lived in SLC and now here in Idaho there aren't any sports teams within 500 miles unless it's the Jazz............so my guess is a family member (Dad or grandparent) is from that area. Me, being from LA it is pretty obvious who my teams are for us old timers (LA Rams). Or, they just like the colors of the jerseys
Real quick while somewhat on the subject, my dad was from LA and my mom is from Ohio. I am a true blue fan of my teams and my teams only except for college sports where I am a UCLA fan and an Ohio St. fan. Dad's team was USC and I felt sorry for my mom when they would beat up on the Buckeyes in the Rosebowl every year.

Well, Joe its like this. As is the case with most of us - it's a childhood thing. I loved baseball and my uncle was a huge Yankee fan. He'd come down ever spring for spring training and we'd go to games all over the state. He worked in Sumter, SC which was home to Bobby Richardson (Late 50's & 1960's Yanks 2nd baseman) and got lots of memorabilia through him from the team. As for the Colts, well, there wasn't much football on TV in the 50's & early 60's and no FL team until the mid-60's (Dolphins). I just took a liking to Johnny U and that entire team. Colts vs Packers was always an A+ watch. As for the Ravens, that didn't come until much later. I just like the physical style of play and the way Ozzie Newsome operates. The unquestioned leader was Ray Lewis who was a UM grad so there was some 'homer' connection.

Trivia - Wilber Marshall and Chris Collinsworth are both from Titusville, FL where I have lived the past 50+ years. Saw them both play HS ball and it was clear they were superior athletes.

Hey Joe i'm glad that you asked.I have been asking that same question myself and like you didnt want to hijack the thread....

Well i grew up a Hab fan living in Montreal it was easy.Most of my early teens and twenties were spent celebrating Stanley Cup championships and with apologies and all do respect my fave one was and still is 1971' where in game 7 of the final and The Habs down 2-0 in Chicago'Jacques Lemaire blasted one from a stride or 2 inside the center ice line past a shocked Tony O. Then in the third period the Pocket Rocket Henri Richard tallied twice and won the Game and Cup.

as a wee little rugrat a took a shining to the Baltimore Orioles.however when My Beloved Expos came along and won there first ever game at Shea in 1969 by the crazy score of 11-10 i was hooked..i miss them dearly.during the eighties i would make an annual trip to baseball heaven better known as Wrigley Field.
i saw my Spos there (yes spos-a little term of endearment) maybe 25 to 30 times.needless to say when the Expos left me it was easy to be a Cub fan...

My other fave team was the Ottawa Rough Riders (C F L ) no need to elaborate and sadly they also don't exist..

and now on to my Houston Oilers ...well as a youngster (here we go again) some of my family as happened to many Montrealers left town because of the idiot separatist movement.Well my uncle Bill took his family to the U S of A..and when he settled in Houston i went down twice to visit(by the way it snowed in Houston while i was there)it was NFL season Earl Campbell Luv Ya Blue and all.I was hooked gonzo done!! total die hard freak..i have Warren Moon's helmet autographed and all..i even have the Oilers fight song on a 7" vinyl.

and then i lost another team..man im jinxed 3 of my fave 4 teams gone...

anyhow when they moved to Tennessee i stayed with them until i saw the Texans and Houston once again flowed through my vains..there you have it...

apologies Gang..for the long and sometimes heartbreaking stories..Hell loosing Expos/Oilers hurts more then the ol heave ho by various Ladies along the way...

Te's are another group that are getting awfully thin, and if the rumors are to be believed, Ertz appears to be Celek's replacement, even though he's still around. let's hope so.
McCluster? Why not? if there's a guy in KC that's even the tiniest bit similar to DJAX, it's McCluster, and Andy Reid always finds a way to get his playmakers involved. I'll be very tempted to take a flyer on this guy in virutally every draft I'm in this year..probably would've been a better pick that Coradelle Patterson in the suicide league, but I had lost my mind that day.

Treff is traveling the continent in the other direction from the Raiders to the Braves, and then the Cowboys? What gives? How does this happen?

Growing up in Nebraska, we didn't have an NFL team, and the games that were on were always Broncos, occasionally Chiefs..I got sick and tired of them, they weren't my "home" team..so I went the opposite way..who's the team they hate the most? Raiders Nation here I come. And it just stuck. Comes in awfully handy now that I live in Colorado, really pisses people off!

Braves? Well truth be told, I'll always hold a sentimental place in my heart for the Royals, George Brett diving into the dugout during the 85 world series is what made me become a baseball fan, but once I was old enough to understand the economics of baseball, I realized that there wasn't much point in remaining a Royals diehard, and the Braves were constantly on TBS, so it fit.

Cowboys? just in the blood, everyone in my family loves the Cowboys..I think Roger Staubach swayed my grandpa, and we just followed generation after generation.
