Official week 18 Preview:

As we get closer and closer to postseason time, the focus of the featured match-ups will lean more toward the play-off bubble (with the possible exception of a potential first place duel in week 21). Nobody is out of the running yet, and with the Wolfpack showing recent signs of life, there could be some crazy happenings over the season's last few weeks.

Featured Match-up:

6th place Dub vs. 8th place Yellow Fuzzy- Fuzzy 5- Dub 4

Does is get any better? Playoff implications and a ton of swing categories. The winner of this game could move up to 5th, while the loser could see their playoff hopes start to float away. While this match-up projects to be close, the swing categories could turn it into a blowout either way.

When they last met, Fuzzy drubbed Dub 7-3

Pitching- Could it get any more wide open than this? Dub has a mild edge in the K category with 1 extra start and 1 extra RP, but everything else is a coin flip. Either side could conceivably sweep the pitching cats with a strong week. The arms will likely decide the victor here.

Hitting- On the hitting side, Fuzzy has a clear edge in R, HR, and RBI, but seeing how Dub took silenced the mighty TKO offense last week, anything could happen if those bats stay scorching hot. Dub has the edge in SBs where he has proven very difficult to beat. BA could go either way.

Grand Salami vs. Big League Chew- Grand 6, Big 3

In this LARGE show down, the Salamis will look to avenge a narrow defeat from week 7 where Big League won 5-4. Big League looks to regain momentum after a week 17 setback against the all-powerful Sarnia Tigers.

Pitching- This is a case of strength vs. strength, as both teams send their top 3 pitching staffs into battle. Grand has the slight edge in ERA and WHIP and a grand one in saves. K's and wins will be a toss up since both teams have 7 starts. It will also be fun to see each team bringing their staff aces into battle for 2 turns as Waino and Kershaw each go twice.

Hitting- Hitting looks pretty one-sided on paper in favor of the Salami's, but the Chew's offense is better than their stats indicate. When they get hot, they can crush the competition with epic power displays. As is, the Salamis have advantages is runs, RBI, HR and SBs. BA is a coin flip.

Wolfpack vs. TKO- Wolf 5, TKO 5

Although not the featured match-up, I will be keeping a close eye on this one. The Pack is in must win mode to claw his way back into the play-off picture and TKO is now reeling after back to back big losses. TKO also seeks revenge after a 6-3 loss in week 7.

Pitching- TKO will win saves and the Pack should win Ks and wins. ERA and WHIP are too close to call.

Hitting- Another case of strength vs. strength. Although the YTD stats favor the Pack, TKO's line-up upgrades make his offense every bit as formidable. The Pack has a slight edge in runs scored, while TKO is favored in HRs and RBI. SBs and BA are swing cats.

Soggy Bottom Boyz vs. WHIP my FIP- Soggy 7, WHIP 3

This battle between 3rd place WHIP and 4th place Soggy appear to be somewhat 1 sided. With Gallardo on the DL and a possible suspension looming for Cruz, WHIP could have 2 dead roster spots.

When they last met, WHIP whipped the Boyz 7-3.

Pitching- The Soggy ones have an advantage in ERA and WHIP (although) Gallardo's DL banishment could help WHIP here) and WHIP has the slight edge in saves. Wins and Ks will be close despite 1 extra start from the Boyz.

Hitting- Soggy should Cruz to victory in HR, RBI and SBs. BA and Runs could go either way.

Sportsboys vs. Sarnia Tigers- Sarnia 7 - Boys 2

The Boys are looking for a spark to turn their season around, but they may be hard pressed to find it here. First place Sarnia is clearly the best in the league right now despite the injury to Pujols.

When they played last, Sarnia won 8-2.

Pitching- Wins could go either way, but Sarnia has a clear edge everywhere else. This one looks ugly on paper unless a couple of Sarnia's arms really poop the bed.

Hitting- Offensive categories should be more interesting. The Tigers have the edge in runs, HR and SBs, while the Boys have the edge in RBI. BA is a swing cat. Aside from steals, however, all the other categories are close enough to go either way.

D Dude vs. Fudpuckers- Fud, 6, Dude 3

Fud currently resides in 5th place, but will need a strong finish to stay there with many teams nipping on his heals. Dude is also in must-win mode.

When they last played, Fud won 6-4.

Pitching- Every pitching category could end up going either way. Dude has a mild edge in saves and ERA, while Fud should win K's. WHIP and wins are true toss-up categories.

Hitting- Fud has the big advantage here as Dude's offense is reeling. BA is a swing cat, but all the rest should go to Fud.

Hope you all enjoy the write-up! The week 17 review will be upcoming shortly.

Week 17 Review

I am pinch hitting for the good Rev this week, so this will be a condensed attempt. Enjoy!

Grand Salami 5, Yellow Fuzzy 5-

The score was as close as it can get, but the categories weren't. Only 1 category was really in doubt heading into the weekend (Ks) and the Salamis were able to lock it down to preserve the tie. Fuzzy may have wasted a great hitting week, because he would have won 4 out of 5 hitting cats with even below average results against the frigid salami line-up.

Dub 9, TKO 1-

This one was a shocker, not because Dub won, but because of the convincing fashion with which it happened. Dub swept the dynamic TKO offense and managed to take 4 out of 5 pitching cats too. Both teams are now firmly on the playoff bubble, in 6th and 7th place respectively.

Wolf Pack 6, WHIP my FIP 4-

The Pack had control of this one from the start and got a little unlucky as they had a chance to win HRs and RBI which eventually went to WHIP. Any win is a good win for the Pack, but the need blowouts to get back in the hunt.

Fudpuckers 5, Soggy Bottoms 4-

This was an excellent battle between 2 good teams. In the end, a Doubront win and a couple timely hits allowed Fud to turn a possible 6-4 defeat into a big win. Both teams look to continue their push for the play-offs next week.

Sarnia Tigers 7, Big League 3

This game was extremely close as 7 of the 10 categories were up in the air heading into Sunday's games. Unfortunately for Big League, he was only able to take control of 3 and. This game could have easily been 7-3 in the other direction.

Sportsboys 7, Big D 2

Sam was able to ride a near sweep of the hitting cats to a big win. Interestingly enough, the tie was the result of neither team stealing a base. The Sportsboys will look to continue to climb back into the race next week while D Dude hopes to right the ship.

Simple, I have crap matchups for my # 7 & 8 pitcher so I figured throw two good middle relief pitchers in there instead to help out with whip & era.
Unfortunately Bastardo was one of these mystery players not mentioned.

Got it. I thought perhaps they were in line for some starting gigs. With Bastardo, that is just some really bad luck. :what:

My ass is whooped, the past 24 hours has been tiring. I'm gonna take an Ambien and a few shots of HoneyJack and get some sleep.

"Medlen's been as consistent as he can be every time he takes the ball!"

Does Eric Byrnes know what he's talking about, or does he just like to yell and wave his arms a lot? :what:

Well, he probably did not like getting hit in the junk, while demonstrating baserunning skills in MLB t.v's Studio 42.
