Samardzija and Hammel to the A's? Addison Russell one of the names back to the Cubs... pretty much done deal, I've heard. The Cubbies certainly have a log jam infield of prospects! A's beefing up their rotation.

Dan Straily too... that makes it a pretty nice haul for the Cubbies, IMO. I wonder if they are thinking about dealing Starlin? I would assume this almost certainly moves Baez to 3rd and Bryant to LF, does it not?

i agree... But this was solely a trade for the 4 man rotation in the playoffs for oakland... Dont think it helped oakland at all for the season, and it makes no sense for the cubs to pay so much for a SS prospect... dont they have castro and baez?? Does this mean castro is off the team in 2015???

You'd have to think Castro is moving very soon...seems like a good time for the Cubbies to trade him and get some value. Russell has that hammy thing going on, but I'm surprised he got moved. My gut reaction to Strailey in Wrigley is that it's not a good fit, but we'll see...

My semi-delayed gut reaction is that I love the Shark in Oakland...then again, I've got a soft spot for that guy.

Don't forget about Alcantara....

He can play both MI positions and has 10 HRs and 20 steals in AAA so far this year.

My guess is that the Cubs are planning to move Castro and they are not sold on Baez. They see Russell/ Alcantara as their future MI.

You might be right about this.

I guess adding Russell gives them options. If Baez proves to be a stud, they can always do this. If not, the are covered anyway.

Man, I sure am glad Votto was the one piece that you weren't willing to give up for Trout............not being a smart ass either. I would have accepted that trade. BTW, looking to off Wright if anybody is interested. Looking for MI help (bad) and am willing to throw in Garza or another arm if the price is, um, Wright.
