Plenty of similarities here and should make for an interesting debate.
While the advanced stats heavily favor Big Papi, the case for LeCroy was he was FAR more versatile as a chubby player. His repertoire included catcher!!! Matthew was the backbone of a few division title winning teams and while Ortiz has 3 rings those largely came on the heels of fiery go getters like Pedroia and Paplebon. Also, while all you stat nerds may try and twist your argument the real professionals working for the Twins chose to roll with LeCroy and release Ortiz. So ponder that for a moment as well.
Ortiz does have well over 2,000 career hits, 500+ homers and 600+ doubles with a .380 career OBP, which should surely make the argument for some.
Thoughts?
