So at least understand a little more why Prater has struggled this off season and why we brought in some competition for him...Looks like he has been suspended 4-games for substance abuse (alcohol). How do you get suspended for alcohol? I guess he was drinking at home and somehow then during his testing still had alcohol in his system so now is suspended...

This again comes back to the whole Ray Rice gets suspended 2-games for knocking out his fiancé/wife yet Prater gets 4-games for drinking alcohol at home.

WTF? So they call him in, and just because he was drinking at home during the offseason he gets suspended?

That is beyond BS.

There must be more to this story than what we're hearing. And who suspended him? The league or the team?

Prater has been in the NFL's alcohol program since August 2011, when he was arrested and charged with DUI. According to Steinberg, the league initially wanted to suspend Prater for an entire season, but that was negotiated down to four games.

sounds like he has a drinking problem

Very true as well. How come I have never heard of this happening to any other NFL players? Im pretty sure many of them drank the night before and still had a trace of alcohol in there system as well. Just saying.

Very surprising. I didn't know that a player could be suspended for having drunk a few beers.

Broncos' Matt Prater will be suspended four games - NFL.com

Quote from Prater's lawyer:
"No one feels worse about this than Matt Prater," Steinberg told The Post. "He feels terribly for his teammates. It's cost him personally, both professionally and financially. I wonder if we shouldn't take a second look at the policy when only a couple beers were consumed at home while he was on vacation. Having said that, the NFL under the constraints of the policy couldn't have treated us better."

Absolutely agree with the bolded.

I feel bad for Prater. It just sucks that common sense and fair judgment can never be applied in situations like this. Can a player not have a beer? I would like to know how the substance abuse policy reads and how he violated it. I don't know the details of the situation, but it seems like an absurd rule/response.

Roger Goodell is taking the NFL to hell in a hand basket. 2 games for striking your wife, 4 games for having beers at home. Fucking absurd!

I think the hit and run and stripper in car might have influenced his punishment somewhat. I agree on the hit and run but strippers are people too ya know:)

The irony is thick......

75% of the commercials during an NFL game are for beer.

There has to be a better resolution for this than suspending the guy for 4 games.

So Prater gets suspended 4 games for alcohol yet Sheriff Goodell has yet to do anything about the 4 felonies Jim Irsay racked up. What the hell!?!?!?!?

In the logic that the NFL uses, probably not. [see Ray Rice]. :L

If Prater was in the program due to a dui in 2011, then he should have known better than to have a couple of beers on vacation. Sounds to me like he realizes that and is owning up to his mistake. Hopefully none of those first 4 games come down to a field goal to win.

Guess it's time to see what Mitch Ewald can do....
